THE TARBORO' SOUTHERNER SATURDAY, - Sept. 1, 1866 A Widow fop Me. Let youth sing the praise of blushes, And thrill with the rapturous bliss That rises unhidden, and flushes The brain at the thought of & kiss. It is all very well to be laden With passionate joy when you see The innocent blush of a maden, But the glance of a widow for ine. Not a fig would I give for the rapture That swell in the breast of a boy, When Cupid has helped him to capture A boarding school casket of joy. I don't care for bloom and fine dresses But Paradise comes when I see A widow in weeds and soft tresses Oh ! that is a charmer for me. Then let youth sing the praises of beauty, And kneel before maidenhood's shrine, To ringlets and blushes pay duty, And dream that such things are divine. But give me the flash that entrance, The heart that was bound and is free, The eye with a soul in the glance Oh! a gentle young widow for me. 1 On Royal Fashions. ISy Point Lookout, so well known to large numbers of Confederates, has been sold to Gen. Win. Bayard, of New York, for 667,500. It is expect ed to be fitted up as a watering-place in time for the next season. A rattlesnake was killed near Belleville, Texas, recently, which was 14 feet long, G inches thick, and had 41 rattles. Three men, armed with fence rails, had a desperate combat with it. J66f A lady visitor at Saratogy Springs tejoices in eighty dresses and thirry-six bonnets. Eloping Couples Two runaway couples reached the town of Quitman Mississippi, on the 10th ult., in search of somebody to marry them. The bride were only sixteen, and eighteen, and, on account of age, being refused, they declared they intoned to get mar ried or "fight it out on that line, if it took all summer." They found some body to make them two twuins in an djoining county. Grave Desecrated, We learn that the foot stone at the grave of little Jo neph Davis, son of Ex-president Davis, has been stolen and carried off by some vandal. If this is intended as an in sult to his illustrious but unfortunate father, the scouudrcl who offered it may by assured that it fails to accomplish the object.
