I lilt I THE WEEKLY SOUTHERNER. THURSDAY, MARCH 17,1857 Her Pilgrimage. The snow flake fklcd, many a star, ' To earth, from pale December's skies, .When a fair spirit, from afar, a Smiled through an infant's violet eyes. And, as she sweetly breathed, the hours Wove, like a robe of gossamer, All grace about her, while the flowers Their tints and perfumes gave to her. In after time, when violets grew, And pale anemones veiled the land, She drooped her modest eye of blue, And gave to love her maiden hand. Four times the holy angels came, To greet her with a dear unrest ; And, in a mother's saintly name, Left a young angel on her breast. At last, her gentle face grew pale As the anemones of Spring ; Xnd whiter than the bridal veil Was that in which she .took her wing. And, than that fixed despair more white, fcoitiy the stars, in feathery snows, Came, covering with sereher light ller folded hands, her meek repose. Talc stars, through which the night looked down, Until they wept away in showers On those dear hands, which elapsed crown, And closer still the cross, of flowers. the The snow flakes melt on earth in tears The eternal stars in glory shine ; "While in the .shroud of desolate years Dead love awaits the immortal sign. eynwuitiriwrwiia SPUNGIANA. A submarine mountain was discovered while making the soun dins. The printer in Indiana, who squee zed two brevier types out of his sore finger, took another squeeze at it the other day, and got the balance of the font and a double'cylinder press. Prominent planters and farmers, whobe letters may be found in our new pamphlet, testify as to the following practical ad vantages in the use of Mapes' Super-Phos phate' Saved the cotton crop in many cases from kcin by rust. 1.10 to 90O lhs. of Mapes' Nitro- genized Super-Phosphate applied even afr ter the Cotton was up, nearly double the crop. Cotton grown with. J.Iapes' Super-Phos phate brought higher price per pound. Stood, drought better than Peruvian, American or any of the various guanos used in the vicinty. The cotton held its bold better. Caused no firing of the cotton during drought. Cotton continued its fruiting latter. The last bolls as large and abundant as any previous stage of the crop. Produced a larger yield and heavier weight of Cotton and Wheat than Peruvian Guano. The yield of Corn grown with Mapes' Super-Phosphate was nearly double that grown with other Super Phosphates. Worms hardly touched the corn grown with Mapes' Super-Phosphate while one- third of the corn grown with other Super- Phosphates was eaten up. For composts with muck Mapes' Super- Phosphate cannot be excelled. Has produced a - quicker and larger growth than home-made composts. 250 lbs. per acre increased the saccharine mat ter in " sugar beets" to 14 1-2 per cent., being 2 1-2 per cent, higher than the highest results before reported and some six per cent, above the average. i ci uiuuauuj iiusMVirj u.c aviu One application produced abundant yield for Four Years, and still continues to show the effects Dispense with the necessity ?:at:on of crops.
