Mr. Willits ran a dray line here last summer, but left to accept a position as conductor on the Willmar branch of the Great Northern. While rail roading, he suffered the loss of his left hand. As Brinkman & Sisley had three saloons on-hand, they very reasonably consented to give him a show, and Mr. Willits has secured one of the best patronized places in Bemidji. George W. Scott, of the lumbering firm of Waite & Scott operating across the lake, informed us yesterday that he had a crew of eighty men at work and that he will continue to log all summer. The Peterson Entertainers gave two first-class entertainments in town this week. Every member of the company were masters in their line. "More than pleased" was the verdict of all who witnessed the shows. A little less than a year ago Frank Snyder and Matt Phibbs purchased a lot and building on Beltrami avenue of Ben Synomes for $1,000. Last week they sold it for 81,500. Dokken, of Mekinak, N.Dak., is here visiting his friend Olson of the firm of Sutton and Olson. Manager Kirsh of the Crookston opera house was in town last week, and said the Frank E. Long company was one of the best companies that ever played in his house. They will be here all next week.' People will carry stamps who never did before, and those who carried will carry the more, that the local pocit office has received the new stamp books. The books contain 11, 24 and 48 2-cent stamps each and are sold at an advance one cent on the stamp value of each book to cover cost of manufacture. The pages are six stamps each Interleaved with parafflne paper to prevent premature adhesion making the book of convenient size to carry in the pocket or pocketbook. Shinn were married on Tuesday even ing, May 1, by Rev. Geo. P. Watson. At the residence of the bridegroom, on May 2, Chas. J. Swedback and Minnie Nelson were married by Rev. Geo. P. Watson. A Breach of Contract Alleged. In the municipal court yesterday Judge Sullivan heard the case of Fer ris vs. Beamer, in which the plaintiff alleged a breach of contract entered into by the defendant, and claimed damages in the sum of $300. The plaintiff was represented by Grover & Massee, and Chas, W. Scrutchin, the well known colored attorney of Bemidji, represented the defendant. The parties to the action were put on the stand, each testifying in his own behalf and one witness for the plaintiff caused no amount of 'merriment, to say nothing of surprise by testifying favorably to the defense. The case was very complicated, both sides using all the article* of law at their com mand. Judge Sullivan took it under advisement, promising a verdict in a few days.Grand Forks Herald.
