Miss Blanche Woodward returned last week from her visit in Park Rapids. Beginning- next month the Woodmen will have weekly meetings instead of semi-monthly as at present. The lumbering business of John Steidl is now conducted under the firm name of Steidl, Tweet & Sons. Seveiial of our most prominent mer chants are putting in branch stores, at points northward along the new rail road. Foote, of the Bradstreet Mercantile Agency, is in town this week with an interrogation point in his eye. All of our people who have been located by A. R. Button and who have been up to see their claims are more than pleased. A. Berg, of Fosston, was in town Monday transacting business for the woolen mills. He says Bemidjiis one hi the best customers for his products. John Doran is now assisted by Al Hazen in the management of the popu lar "Honest John's Saloon." Mr. Hazen has turned over the hostship of the Merchants Hotel to Jack Ripple. E. J. Hagerty is closing a deal to turn over his livery and feed barn to a Mr. Bloomer, of Maplertdge town ship. Mr. Hagerty will probably move upon his claim near Mud Lake. The Royal Neighbors adopted three new members Tuesday night. The Neighbors have changed their nights of meeting to the first and third Mon day of each month. The handsome and exquisit dock that was.constructed at the foot of Third street last spring, by order of the city council, is at the present time in a very delapitated condition, the ice having crowded the whole structure toward the setting sun to such an ex tent that its absolute (reconstruction will be necessary. Paddy Burke was acquitted of the charge of murder of Charles Grant at Grand Rapids this week after the jury had been out 24 hours. He was justi fied, said the jury. W. W. Irwin was secured by defense. The Herald-Re view says: "Judge McClenahan's instructions were at considerable length, alia delivered with remarkable clearness, concisely and with notabie impartality." Saturday evening at the Presbyter ian church, F. J. Maw will organize a singing class in the rudimental course. Mr. Maw is a singing teacher of long experience, and it is hoped thatenough pupils can be secured to make his work in Bemidji profitable. For the past year Mr. Maw has been located at Itasca, where he came for his health. Quite a few changes have been made in the post office department of this county recently. A. O. Johnson has been appointed postmaster at Turtle River to sftcceed Fred Silver, resigned: Theo. Wegmann succeeds Mr. Christofferson. resigned, at Itasca: atWinsorM. L. Bright will pound stamps in place of H. O. Widness, whose term has expired C been appointed at Wilborg in plaae of R. E. Wilborg, term expired. The revival services at the Presby terian church will probably close Sat urday evening. Rev. Petran, the evangelist, will conduct services Sun day morning and will deliver a sermon in the afternoon for men only, begin ing at two ^o'clock. In the evening he will deliver his farewell sermo and will depart to other fields. The services have been very profitable a large attendance every night, and a number of converts have been made. Both Rev. Higgins and Mr. Petran have worked earnestly in these meet ings and the c(tnmunity has been blessed by their efforts. ft. B. FOSTER. The masons are bricking in the new boil ers/ and in about three weeks the power of the plant will be increased over one hundred horse power, or to three hundred. An extention of 20 feet has recently been added to the rear of the power house. There is noi an industry in the city that has made a more rapid growth than the lighting plant. A colored gentleman by that name was acting too new in one of our saloons and making threats to carve the anatomy of a promising young man. Watson returned last Thursday afternoon .from his visit to the new and prospective towns along the Minnesota and International rail road, where he.conducted the first re ligous services everheldin Blaekduck, Bridgie and Grand Falls. He secured lots in Blaekduck for a M. E. church, organized a board of trustees and formally incorporated a church under the name of the first M. E. church of Blaekduck.
