A speech by Attorney Crawford, and ai debate on the relative merits of country and city girls are among the features of the evening. Rev. Higgio* will deliver his second sermpn to young men next Sunday evening. The subject is "Gambling," which should foe one of interest to others beside young men. This is One of the greatest evils on earth, and it-requires heroism to confront it in Bemidji in the emphatic way Mr. Higgins.undoubtedly will. The Y. M. C. A. boys have their eoats off and are working manfully to build up that laudable society. Their hall in the Silver building on Second street is open nightly and as soon as their library is complete, the rooms will be open to the public Saturday and Sundav. Sunday services are held at 3:30 in the afternoon. Revs. Higgins and Teeters addressed a large congregation there Sunday and Rev Higginsiwill deliver a sermon at that hourjnext Sabbath. Married, Friday noon, February 28, George Foot and Lizzie Hollinger, both of Tenstrike. The ceremony was performed in the parlors of the Brink ham hotel, Fred Brinkham and wife standing up with the couple and Judge Skinvik pronouncing the magic words. He was 43 years old and his home was at Horace, to which place his remains were shipped by Under taker Naylor. Rev. Lyman H. Steinhort returned Tuesday night from Detroit and will preach next Sunday as usual. Rev. W, Richardson, a young man from New York city is expected to take the pastorate at once and will probably arrive before next Sunday to be pres ent at the services. The ever popular Myrtle Yinton and her company are at the opera house avery night this week and a Saturday matinee. A large crowd visited the show the first evening, Tuesday, and they were well pleased. This company carries some of the best scenery ever brought to Bemidji. Harry Sears was in from Foster & Bagley's camp at Skunk lake Monday i and he authorizes us to say that the conduct of Erny Wood has been faultless this winter. Erny is the man who held up the olerfk of a camp near Fan-is last winter to collect what he considered due him. He served live months in prison, and is flow out on hs good behavior. BEAK ClfiBKJv. Juit a little snow tell the latter part of last week. It gave another stat* to logging. Two dances were held last Saturday nightone at R. R. Felt's and the other at A. Edmond's. It is said that both were enjoyed. School in District No. 11 was closed last week on account of the slight ill ness of the teacher. It was resumed on Monday last. Religious services were held at Ki len's store on Monday last. Miss Watkins was on the sick list the first of the week. Fagan's and Scrivener's camps are quarantined. This fact does not seem to frighten" any of our settlers. H. f\ o.ic. LEON LOCALS. Hans Skarbo brought Magensonand family to Bagley Thursday whore they took the tiain for parts unknown. Henry Olberg was to Bemidji after marriage license Thursday and was married Saturday to Miss Carrie Kvam from the town of Piae Lake. The wedding was held at Mail Carrier Lars Larson's place and it was one of the largest gatherings of invited friends ever witnessed in this town. Lars Kvam, the father of the bride, attended the groom and Mrs. Lars Larson assisted the bride. Pastor Noeman, who officiated, was in his best ana preached a sermon that long will be remembered by tho*e present. The newly married couple received many nice and valuable presents from their friends. Both parties are well known and need no introduction from us. They will reside on the bride groom's homestead. We congratu late. Axel Anderson and another young fellow was around after dark, Satur day, inquiring where the wedding was held. "Better late than never," Axel. "I sold so many presents for this wedding, that I would wish there was a wedding for every day in the year," said Miss Tongbol the proprietress of the "Big Store." The town election next week will have greater significance than any election held in this county before, be cause it will decide if the pine barons shall help us poor settlers to build a suitable courthouse and jail.
