Dick Palmer who was arrested for the murder of Tom Seeley at Spur Seventy-five last week has been ac quited by the coroners jury at Park Papids, in spite of the fact that an eye witness testified to the fact that it was murder pure and simple. Mr. and Mrs. D. K. McPherson and little daughter Rose, left this morning for St. Paul from which place Mrs. McPherson and Rose will go to Mason City, Iowa, and anther places in Southern Minnesota. WILLE TS Joseph Leicht, editor ond publisher of the Weslicher Herold, a German newspaper published in Winona, was in the city the fore part of this week, in the interest of his paper, which is largely in circulation even in this vicinity. The PIONEER acknowledges a very friendly visit from Editor Leicht. C. H. Mileshas a large sign in front of his brick block which reads as fol lows: "200 turkeys given away to the poor the day before Xmas. Call your self or send your childien." Com ment is unnecessary. Address, Box 653, Bemidji. 40-41 The Epworth League society gave a mum social at Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Wright's residence last Monday even ing. This social was schudeled to take place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. James knott, but owing to the illness in the family it was transferred as stated above. All present had a very enjoyable time. The S. C. Jackson Lumber Co. of Duluth have built a very fine shingle mill at Tenstrike, where that firm has a contract to furnish 120,000.000 feet of cedar shingle, which will be shipped to Duluth and Minneapolis. The firm has also a store at Tenstrike and will soon have an electric light plant there to furnish light in the mill and store. This will be a great help to the village of Tenstrike. Mrs. Guy Remore spent two or three days in the city recently. Mrs. Remore now makes her home in Minneapolis. The Lumbermens State Bank have been giving out some very neat ad vertising souvenirs this week in the shape of large handsome calendars. Andrew B. Salee. who lives in township 149, Range 33, Section 7 and 8, found gold, silver and mica on his place. 40-42 The Board of County Commission ers will convene tomorrow for the purpose of accepting the new court house from the contractors. Notwithstanding the cold weather the building of residences continue in Bemidji. People are forced to build for there are no buildings to rent and the weather is to cold to do without. Lou Smith returned from Bagley the latter part of last week where he has been engaged for some time straightening out the telephone system there, and building a new toll line. He reports the telephone system at Bagley to be a good one and sure to be profitable to the stockholders. Representatives of the Weber Directory Co. are in the city, with a view to numbering the houses and getting out a directory for Bemidji. They have received the necessary authority from the city council and are rapidly canvassing the town. The subject at the Spiritualists' meeting at the Red Men hall Sunday evening will be "Why I am a Spirit ualist." Some of the philosophies and phenominea of Spiritualism will be touched upon and tests will be given after the lecture. Everybody is invited. As has been advertised in these columns, R. C. Dunn, State Land Commissioner, will conduct a sale of state stumpage at the old court house tomorrow. It is expected that the sale will be largely attended, if we may judge by the interest manifested among buyers. The second number of the entertain ment course under the Epworth League auspices was given last Mon day evening at the opera house. The entertainment on the above occasion was the Columbian Colored Concert Company who g.tve a very creditable programme. The ladies of the Organ Fund Asso ciation of the Presbyterian church, wish it announced through these columns that they will have a plenti ful supply of baked beans, brown bread, doughnuts, cake and pies at Schroeder's store Saturday afternoon from 2 until o'clock. Mrs. Walter Scott will have a par lor bazaar at her residence on Ameri can avenue and Sixth street Dec. 17 and 18. afternoon and evening, 1902. It will consist of pyrography or burnt work, point lace, embroidery, handkerchiefs and Christmas novel ties. Phone, 214. The Spiritualist social,- conducted by Mrs. B. F. Bishop at her home last Friday evening, was a pleasant gathering. Games were played and a jolly good time was had. The next social will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. Snow on North Bemidji avenue. Everybody is invited to these socials and the one tomorrow evening will be no exception as to a good time. Reynolds & Son gave an exhibition in horseshoeing last Tuesday was in teresting to those who saw it. They have purchased a horse-stock in order to be able to handle the mort vicious animal as easily aa the most docile. At this exhibition they had to deal with a horse that has been a terror to all blacksmiths in Bemidji for several years, but the horse-stock, a machine for horseshoeing, held the animal like a match in an iron vice, and it was shod exactly according to program Last Sunday evening Rev. Foster, pastor of the M. E. church, delivered the first of a series of Sunday evening addresses, entitled "Bible Politics, the Hope of our Nation." It was a brilliant, scholarly, effective attempt to show the place the Bible occupied among the nations and plead for a more general application of its prin ciples in politics. The rest of the series promise to equal if not excel in being interesting and instructive. Next Sunday morning his topic will be "God's call to Awake Evening, the Brotherhood of Man." On Tuesday, December 16, Ladies' Guild of the Presbyterian church will give a sale and supper at the church. Supper 25cts. Last week seemed to be election week among the fraternal organiza tions of this city. On Tuesday the K. of P. elected anew corps of officers. On Wednesday evening the Masonic order lined up an excellent body of officers and on December 17 they will have instalation followed by a sumpt uous banquet to which a large num ber of out of town Masons have been invited.
