dren who have been visiting Mrs.
Graham's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Detling, at Blackduck are ex
pected home tomorrow.
S. F. Essler left today for a
business trip to Nary. From
Nary he will go to St. Peter for a
short visit with relatives and
bring his family heme.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Olson, of
Osakis, arrived in the city last
night to make their future home.
Mrs. Olson is a sister of Jack
Rolph, the obliging salesman at
I Meyer & Co. 's.
Joseph Burns contemplates
putting in a skating rink near
the pier. It will be enclosed and
will be large and roomy if Mr.
Bums decides to put it in and
would no doubt bo very well
patronized.
Harry Bliler is constructing
an ice boat. There will probably
be several on the lake this win
ter. Ice boating as a sport has
not been popular in Bemidji
heretofore, but it will have a
good start this season.

the local chess championship.
Mr. Loud has. a chess game at his
office whenever he can spare the
time. He was at one time the
champion chess player of West

Hector Corbett, alias the "Liv
erpool Kid," whose career as a
crook and highwayman has been
checkered, while in liquor this
afternoon attempted to shoot up
the fixtures at the Lake Shore
saloon of Ole Anderson, dis
charged his gun once, the ball
