Contractor Grande is pushing the new Stein & O'Rourke block, and will have the building in readiness for occupancy the last of the com ing month. Mrs. W. T. Biss is at present visit ing at the home of her parents at Mandan, North Dakota. She is ex pected to return home the latter part of the week. The ice cream social under the auspices of the M. E. Ladies' Aid, at the church Wednesda}' afternoon, was a decided success, the ladies netting upwards of $10.00. Mr. and Mrs. J. Shanedling and family will return this evening from Chicago, where they had been in attendance at the wedding of M. Shanedling on Sunday last. B. F. Smith, W. B. Pratt, D. E.Cup pernull and C. E. Pigott spent the Sabbath communing with nature and the finny tribe at Vermilion Lake. The boys brought back a good catch. A. P. Belanger was over from Chisholru for Sunday. A little side issue is said to' be in sight for the winner, which will insure as good a team as money can buj' on either side. The game will be no kindergarten affair and spectators will get their „quar ter's worth. Edward Johnson has moved into his new quarters in the Hawkinson Block, opening his nobby cream and confectionary parlors to the public the first of the week. Shea, of Ely Lake, was in the city on Saturday, calling on old friends. Since his memorable suit against the Cloquet Lumber Co. was closed Mr. Shea has suffered from nervous debility caused by the strain of the long-drawn-out legal contest, but reports a rapid improvement. A valuable team belonging to Joel Tornquist became scared at a train early Monday evening, loos ing themselves from the driver. In the run jurhich followed the team became entangled in a wire fence, one of the animals being so seri ously injured that its usefulness as a livery horse, at least, has been spoiled. E. Matheson has practically com pleted the improvements to his liv ery* and now has the neatest barn on the range. Mr. and Mrs. W.-G. Shane went to Duluth Saturday, foVthepurpose of having an operation performed on the former. He has been suffering for some time with pleurisy. A sack of pus had forthed over the lower part of his left lung andwas be coming worse, when it was thought best to take it from him.
