Terms. $2 Per Year, in Advance FALL politics commence to "bob" and it is no uncommon thing to find a few heads bunched on the street corners talking "possibili ties." TOM LAWSON continues to score "frenzied finance." but we have yet to hear of any of the millionaires making application for bankiuptcy proceedings as a'result of his on slaught. THE PRINCETON UNION avers that "Sam Fullerton represents the Orangemen and the A. P. A's in Governor Johnson's official family." Would he not have Dunn likewise in the official family of another can didate had the people believed in his screed of honor? THE Paynesville Press pertly re marks that "the man who is too blamed honorable to bolt a politi cal party when he believes that party is in the wrong is the sort of fellow who wink? at gratt and isn't adverse to accepting a piece for his own use 'for the good of the party.' THE annual school election to be held at the Central High School Building tomorrow, from 4 to 8 p. m., excites considerable comment and hustling on the part of the as pirants for the position of treasur er. The voters will do the deciding, and the opinion of the majority will continue to rule. THE Hibbing officials are "going after" the violators of the health ordinance, and on Saturday im posed a fine of $23 on one person for not keeping his premises in the cleanly manner provided. Should similar action be taken in this city the treasury would be swelled by numerous additions. And it should be. IT is given out in cold print in certain publications of the state that "the Dunn forces" will control the next Republican state conven tion. If we remember rightly they controlled the last one. But the vote at election showed conclusive ly that the convention did not voice the sentiment of the Republican voters of the state, and that while conventions may propose the voters stili dispose. IF the state of Minnesota would put the amount into good roads for the opening and advancement of the undeveloped farm sections of the state that is now annually spent in salaries and mileage for deputy game wardens whose only qualifica tions consist of the "pull" they have with members of the legisla ture and the state commission there would be many miles of roads built each year and the game of the state would never miss the "protection" given. WHEN the Dunn howlers talk of Republican harmony in Minnesota they overlook one bet, and that is that the average mortal can be led a whole lot easier than he can be driven, even on questions of politics. And the quicker it is realized that the turning down of the Republi can candidate in the last campaign was the turning down of a man and a gang of political hucksters in stead of the turning down of party principals the quicker may a re conciliation of party be booked. THE MESABA ORE, in mention of the alleged desire on the part of the Hon. P. E. Dowling to replace J. Adam Bede in th^ halls of congress, breaks forth in the follow ing word picture: "Think of Paddy, under his teens as a citizen of this glorious land of the free, in the teething period of his life in the re publican party, and in the diaper stage of reasoning capacity, labor iously climbing the great marble steps leading to the nation's forum with a whitewash brush under one arm." DID you ever stop to count the words in a column of ordinary print? About two thousand of them. Suppose you sit down and write a thousand words on some subject, then another thousand, and keep it up for eight or ten columns. Do this each week for a month, and then figure that in many instances the newspaper writer has to chase an item alt over town for an hour and condense it into form where it can be read in a minute or two. It's easy, dead easy, but after yon have tried this'past time for a month we hope you will not conclude that the newspaper man has such an easy snap that you will forget to pay your sub scription account when it becomes due.
