William Riley was taken to Du luth Tuesday where he will remain as an honored guest of Sheriff Bates, awaiting the action of the grand jury on a charge of larceny. Riley deftly appropriated a watch belongingto a fellow mortal, at one of the saloons at the east end, on Sunday. Dr. J. W. Deering, of Cloquet, was in the city Monday and Tuesday, completing arrangements to return here and open dentar parlors the coming month. The Honorable Muckless McLain was in the city Monday, leaving for Eveleth in the afternoon for a visit with the gentleman who would liked to have announced his candi dacy for the lieutenant governor ship. Joseph Valante, a tailor who had been in the city for four months, died on Monday. The deceased was a native of Bohemi«i 7/anfd' #as 53 years ot aige. Together with his wife he came, to this coup try in 1890. He is survived by a' wife arid four children. Funeral services were conducted from the house yester day afternoon by Rev. H. E.
