Police Make a Round-llp After Burglars ittonday Night. At an early hour Monday morn ing Patrolmen Moylan and Climas caught onto the till tappers who have been doing the town, red handed, in the saloon of Frank Winchester, but while two men were seen in the place the officers failed to nail them in the building. Officer Clin^as going upstairs to awaken the proprietor, the .men making their escape from the build ing in the meantime, walking out the front door. Later they arrested three men, finding in the room of one of them, John Briggs, a number of stolen articles and other evidence of a. nature proving his complicity in the crime. Briggs was brought' up for a hearing Wednesday moniitig and waived examination, being bound over to the grand jury. The other men arrested were discharged, no evidence sufficient to hold them as accomplices being produced. Briggs has been employed on the D. M. & N. short line passenger as brakeman during the winter, and the police believe that in him they nailed the right man, the method of enterance to the building being similar to that on other jobs, a pane of glass being removed from a rear window by cutting away the putty. Entrance was made to Lantry & Nelson's saloon in the same manner Friday night last andtotheMissabe depot the following night. Looking After Terminals. President W. H. Cook ot the Du luth Rainy Lake & Winnipeg road, who was at International Falls and Fort Francis for several days look ing after the terminal site and get ting the work started at that end of the line, has returned. He says that within the next thirty days 1,000 men will be at work on the road from the Inter national Falls end, and asserts that the original intention of having the road cross the river at Pithers Point, two miles above the falls, will be carried out. A railway bridge is to be built at that point this summer. The engineer for the Rainy Lake road is now on the ground to make the plans for the structure, and the contract is about to be let for the extension to connect with the Canadian Northern railway. It is understood that the com pany of which Mr. Cook is the head will build a large sawmill on the American side across from Pithers Point. It is also said that a town site will be platted about two miles east of International Falls.—Duluth Herald. M. E. Church. Class meeting at 9:45 a. m. Preaching Sunday at 10:45 a. m. and 7:30 p. m.
