Johnson was sent to the work house for 30 days yesterday for stealing a valise and some clothes from a house on lower Third street. . Mike Murphy, arrested by Officer Fitz gerald for the larceny of a watch, was ar raigned in court yesterday morning and the case continued to June 10. A pump -i is being placed in position at Eggert's artesian well on Dakota avenue, West side. and. on Monday will begin the pumping of the sand from the well. Deputy Sheriff Chappell arrived yesterday with 11. H. Carr of Hawley. Carr was or ; dered to appear .in certain supplementary • proceedings and failed to do so. He was 'fined $00. The second grand concert and hop of the season at White Bear will be given at the Chateaugay hotel this evening. A fine pro gram has been arranged by the famous Hessian band, now stationed at the lake. A delightful evening is promised. Children's day is to be observed " Sunday' pmorning at Plymouth church with ap propriate services. The Sunday school is xpected to occupy the body of the house and participate in the exercises. In the evening Dr. Dana, who has just returned from Washington, will speak on the doings and results" of the national convention there of charities and corrections Capt. Stone of Hudson is coming to St. Paul for the purpose of rowing the winner in the race between Dr. Schiffman and Mr. Harrington at Minnetonka. He says he is ready to row a race of two, three or five miles, and he is indifferent which. Mr. Stone is well known in this vicinity-. He won the senior single in both the Mississippi Valley and the Northwestern Amateur Bowing associations. He proposes to come to St. Paul to live about June 20. Nicholas Baxter was lodged the county jail yesterday afternoon to await the train for Duluth. Baxter left the latter place a week or more ago and upon arrival in Chicago was found to be violently insane, presumably : from religious. . excitement. . Upon examination by the court he was or dered returned to Duluth, his friends being unable to make the trip after him, and yes terday he arrived on his -journey in charge of Deputy Sheriff Ginter of Cook county. ClausOlandt, Jr., German secretary of the international committee of the Young 1 Men's Christian association, New York, is j Visiting the association here, and will speak to young men Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the new Y. M. C. A. rooms, corner of Ninth and Wabasha streets, of the wonder ful convention just held at Atlanta, Ga. Since this convention Atlanta has raised, largely through the efforts of the editors of the Atlanta Daily Constitution, $77,000 for a new Y. M.C.
