IS.— The management of the Garfield Park race track is feel ing very downhearted today. The crashing defeat el veil them in" the city council last night lias in great part destroyed their hopes of ever racing again upon the present grounds. The officers of the pail:, however, say but little, and have left the matter entirely with their attorneys. One of their counsel, Clarence Knight, declares that lie is confident of winning the tight, and will have matters so arranged that the races will resume next -Monday. As a side is.sue. Mr. Knight has an nounced his intention of bringing suit against Mayor Wasuburne, Chief of Po lice McChtiighrey and inspector Lewis to recover $200,000 for damages result ing from unlawful interference with the racing. The men threatened with the suits say they are confident of success if proceedings are instituted against them. They have closed the track and declare that they will keep it closed. The mayor has ordered a survey made to ascertain whether or not the Haw thorne track extends 175 feet into the city limits, as is claimed.
