In the matitr of the report of the Board
of Public Works, dated May 2. 1901.
!It is hereby ordered by . the Common
Council of the City of St. Paul:
That; the Board of Public Works of the
City of St. Paul cause Hie. following im
provement to be. ma<Je to-wit: /. 73. "s
. Pave .with vitrified brick, oh concrete
foundation. South Wabasha street, from
Water street to the south line of Isabel
street, except between the rails of -the
street car tracks, and between the tracks
J and for two (2) feet on each side of the
, outside rails of said tracks, including in
said contract to curb with granite curb
j where necessary; also the necessary gas,
; water and sewer connections to the prop
erty lines.
That said Board cause said work to be
let by contract, as provided by law, with
;out one-half of the estimated expense be
ing first paid into the city treasury, and
after said work shall be placed under
: contract, said Board shall proceed with
out delay, to assess the amount, as nearly
•as they can ascertain the same, which
will be required to pay the costs and nec
essary expenses of such improvement, in
proportion as nearly as may be, to the
benefits resulting thereto, upon the real
estate to be benefited by said Improve
ment, as provided by law, it being the
'opinion of the Common Council that real
'estate to be assessed for such improve
ment can be foiyid specially benefited at
least to the extent of the costs and ex
penses necessary to be incurred thereby.
That said Board of Public Works Is
hereby further ordered and directed to
cause to be paved with vitrified brick, on
concrete foundation, of the same kind
and quality and manner of construction
hereinabove ordered, so much, of said
South Wabasha street from Water street
to the south line of Isabel street, as lies
between the rails of each street railway
track, and between the lines of double
tracks of said company, and for a space
of two (2) feet outside of the said tracks.
That the St. Paul City Railway Com
pany be, and it Is hereby notified and it
Is hereby ordered forthwith, to cause to
be paved with vitrified brick on concrete
foundation, of the same kind and quality
and manner of construction, so much of
said South Wabasha street, from Water
street to the south line of Isabel street,
as lies between the rails of each street
railway track, and between the lines of
double tracks of said company, and for a
space of two (2) feet outside of its said
tracks.
That said Board of Public Works be.
and.it is hereby directed to advertise for
and receive bids for the paving of the
portion of said street between and along
said tracks, including the space of two (2)
feet outside of the outer rail of each of
Bald tracks, as aforesaid, at the same
time bids are received for paving the re
mainder of said street, and if the said St.
Paul City Railway company, after the
passage and approval of this order and a
service of a copy thereof upon said com
pany, and for a period of ten CIO) days
after the approval of the award of con
tract for paving said street, shall fail to
commence, and thereafter speedily and
continuously prosecute the paving requir
ed to be done by said company, as afore
said, that said Board of Public Works
cause said paving to be done under the .
contract for paving the rest of said street i
between said points and as a part thereof, j
and that, in that case, said Board of Pub
lie Works be, and it is hereby required
to assess the expense thereof, as pro
vided by law, upon the said St. Paul City
Railway Company.

same is hereby granted to the Twin City
Telephone Company, under and in pur
suance of |the provisions of Ordinance
No. 1974, approved March 23, 1898, to
make the necessary excavations and put
in an underground conduit with required
material, manholes and service pipes on
the following streets, to-wit:
UNDERGROUND.
On Rice street, between West College
and University avenues.
On Smith avenue, from West College
avenue to Seven Corners.
AERIAL,.
Also, to construct a pole line and string
wires on Sherman street, from West Sev
enth street to Spring street; and,
To erect poles and string wires in the
alleys indicated as follows:
In alleys between West College ave
nue and Iglehart street, from Rice to
West Third street.
In alley between West Sixth and West
Third streets, from West College avenue
to Smith avenue;
In alley between Pleasant avenue and
West College avenue, from West Sixth
street to center of block; and,
In alley between West Ninth street
and West College avenue, from Fort j
street to Smith avenue.
Resolved further, That said Twin City !
Telephone Company, in putting in said !
conduit, manholes, poles, wires and ca- I
bios, shall replace all streets, alleys and i
public grounds on and in which any of i
such work shall foe done in pursuance of I
(this resolution in as good order and con
dition as the same were before the doing
of such work; and all of such work shall j
be done under the supervision and direc- j
tion of the City Engineer of the City of
Bt. Paul.
Resolved further, That the permission
lit rein granted is given subject to all the
provisions of said Ordinance No. 1974 and
6.11 ordinances amendatory thereof, and
the said Twin City Telephone Company
6hall remove any portion or all of such
construction work on demand of the City
Council of the City of St. Paul.

The Assembly of the City of St. Paul.
Whereas, Death's visitant hand hag
been laid in heaviness upon the family
home of one of the members of this body
reminding us, by its near proximity in
the death of George C. Whitcomtr the re
spected, loved and honored father of our
associate, Edward H. Whitcomb of the
fitness with which we may pause from
time to time to mark in memory the
completed course of a life which cannot
but furnish an incentive and example to
us all, however much the bitterness of
a sorrow born of slncerest sympathy may
surround us:
Now, therefore be it resolved by the
Assembly of the Common Council of the
City of St. Paul, that out of respect for
the memory of the deceased and as an
evidence of the fact that we are become
fellow mourners with our bereaved asso
ciate, theregular meeting of the Assem
bly appointed to be held on the evening
of Thursday, the 20th day of June, 1901
be and the same is hereby adjourned un
til the hour of 7:SO o'clock on the even
ing of Monday, the 24th day ot June
1901; and, '
Be it further resolved. That the Clerk
be and he is hereby Instructed
and directed to spread these reso
lutions of sympathy and respect
upon the minutes of the Assembly in full
after having caused them to be first pub
