POUR POISON DOWN THE THROAT OF A GIRL Young Woman Meets Death While Spying Upon "Black Hand" Gang JAMISON CITY. Pa.—Nellie Corter. a farmer s daughter, while in the moun tains near Peale. Clearfleld county car ing for cattle, ran upon a cabin'con structed of rough boards in which there were three foreigners who. it is now believed, were members of the Black Hand During the time that her par ents lived there the girl, in caring for the cattle, frequently went to the ren dezvous of the foreigners, and learned some of the secrets of the gang. Corter and hi 3 family moved several months ago from Peale to Jamison City. The girl was recently warned by a young man now living here that enemies would soon be in Jamison City to do her harm. This man had left the gang and was trying to live a different life. She realized the danger she was in, and for some time stayed close to th«» house. Last night, however, she was in front of the house, when she was suddenly grabbed by three men, who held her while one of the number pour ed a liquid poison down her throat. The man fled. The girl's mother worked over her until morning before she recovered. At daybreak members of the family found a note under the front door, addressed to the girl and signed by "The Black Hand" society. It stated that if she was not then dead they would be back on a certain date to complete their Job. At the time the girl lived in Clear fleld county she told the authorities of the existence of the society, and for that the gang resolved to murder her A Difference . ■ hu^nd^^^oT-L liave to hand'-e my e r-^uttinß-Boxing or rubber? -Detroit THE GLOBE'S PAYING WANTS A Few of the Branch O.ficet Where Ads Are Received for "The Globe's Paying Wants" CONGER .
