John Umstattd has secured the
position of janitor at the Publie
School building and will take charge
about the first of the month. Mr.
Umstattd has traded his property
on South Main street for the
Henderson property on East Third
street directly south of the school
building This will enable him to
be near his work. Mr. Jamison the
retiring j initor has filled the position
for eighteen years and was almost
considered a permanent fixture and
his retirement is regretted by all
concerned, especially the pupils and
teachers. Mr. Jamison and family
will leave early in February for
Texas where they will make their
future home. They take with them
the best wishes of a host of friends.
It is estimated that a 1000 tons
of coal was saved in the City of
Quincy by closing the factories of
that city for five days. The bene
fits .from this shut down are difficult
to calculate and are already very
apparent.
