lady was proudly declaring how
promptly she paid her bills, a sheriff
rang her doorbell and produced a sum
mons for her to appear in court and
show reason why she had burned up
ten tons of semlunthracite coal of a
coal company and did not pay for It.
She fainted.
That a certain young Miss whose
feet como together and whose knees
are about two feet apart is wondering
how she can wear the narrow skirts
to be ia vogue this spring. Well, wo
don't lenow, either.
That a meeting of tho Civic
League the other night where the pur
pose was to discuss how to better the
condition of tho young people, a min
ister representing the Ministerial Al
liance said, "Well, I think ihe youns
men are waking up because we ha-e
already been engaged to marry twelve
couples this month." A member of
a well known law firm aroso and said,
"Well, tho young women must be
waking up, too, because w elawyers
have on docket for this term of court
twenty-four divorce suits." The mn-

AMERICAN WOODMEN SCORE.
Supervising Deputy W. A. Campbell
of tho American Woodmen, 1612 East
12th street, received a telegram tho
27th of February stating that Neigh
bor Georgo Parks had passed away at
Colllnsvillo, 111. Ilia relatives being
unablo to go, authorized Mr. Campbell
to represent them. Mr. Campbell as
sisted by Hon. C. H. Calloway, depart
ed at onco for Colllnsvillo. They, how
over, wore under the improsslon that
Nolghbor Parks had been killed at tho
St. Louis Smelting Company. Tho
Company sent an automobllo to meet
theso distinguished gentlemen and
were nicely entertained by them, turn
ing over to them fifty dollars as a
charitable gift, which was applied on
tho burial. They learned, however,
that Neighbor Parks was not killed;
tho angel of the Lord came for him
and put a death sentence upon him
and he was compelled to go.
