Tbe crime for which Mra.
Lovell ia being tried was com
mitted at ber borne in Butler on
the night of December 20th
Duke Benefield was shot by ber,
from tbe effects of which be died
a few daya later. Considerable
mystery aurrounded the boot

ence was broaeht out at the pre
liminarv hearing to cause bei
arrest upon a charge of murder

was sdmitted to bond in the sum
of $3,000.
The case was given to the jury
Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock
and they were in charge of De
puty Sheriff Wallace nntil Mon
day morninir at 11 o'clock when
they came into couit and notified
the judge they were unable to
agree upon a verdict and were
