Knoch Smith, who was more than
100 years old, was burled In the ceme
tery at Cour.ensy. near Independence.
The family record were destroyed in
a fire at the time of the Civil war,
so that the exact date or Enoch
Smith's birth has been lost. It la be
lieved that he was born in 1S09. Smith
moved to Independence from Tennes
see In 1S36. He often told of having
visited he site of Kansas City when
there we.re only a biax-ksailth shop and
two stores there. He was married first
when he i 19 years old. Nine chil
dren were born of this marriage, two
of whom are still living.
