Bitten by a Doa. Bertha Fisher,
aged about eight years, daughter of Mr.
J. M L. Fisher, was severely bittoo on
the neck by a dog belonging to the lam

in tho habit of playing with and carcsfing
the dog, and last Sunday morning sho
went up to him, and stooping down laid
her hand on his head, and commenced
talking to him, when the dog snapped at
her throat, making an ugly wound on the
fleshy part of the neck. Tho dog was

last Friday. The exhibition was a de

whom arc young, acquitting themselves in
a manner both creditable to themselves
and their teachers. Last Monday Miss
Hughes opened a three-months' school,
and has now about sixty pupils under her
charge. Miss Susie Worsliam, wo under

Another Man Killed. Last Mon
day a difficulty occurred at Post Oak, in
this county, between Wm. Carter, who
has been living with Edgar Browning,
and Ed. Guiatt of Melville, St. Charles
county, which resulted in tho death of
Carter. It appears that there bad been a
law suit betweon them sometimo since in
regard to a horso, and the two men, meet
ing at Post Oak last Monday, had some
angry words about it, when Carter picked
up a rock and threw it at Guiatt, who
then closed upon him, drow a bowie
knife annd inflicted among other wounds
a fatal Rpsh in the bowels. Carter was
taken to Mr. Browning's, where he died
yesterday morning at three o'clock. At
this writing, Guiatt bad not been ar
