Brantley and his family being away
from home, some of the young men of the
village had been staying in his house at
night. Last night voting Fields was a
little late in arriving, and one of Un
voting men, W'i'l Otey, challenged him
and snapped a pistol that he supposed
to he empty at Field's breast. The pis
tol was discharged and the ball passed
through Field's heart, killing him in
stantly. Voting Otey is almost frantic
with grief at the killing of his friend.
