ear of cor n measuring fourteen inches in
length, nine inches in circumference and
.weighing 12U pounds, raised on Capt.
V. M. Addington's place near town.
Mr. K. T. Smith has in one of his show
eases a nail out of the coffin of Jack
Sevier, first Governor of Tennessee.
Sevier died and was buried in Alabama,
but a few weeks ago his remains were
taken up and placed in tlic court house
square in Knoxville. Dr. C. li. Smith was
in the eity at the time and was given the
relic by a member of the party that
accompanied the Governor's remains
Tuekascegee Democrat: Last Friday a
large mass of rock, which had been made
insecure by undermining, at the Cope
mine, fell and caught Thos. Knsley and
Henry Bnsley, who were at work neurit,
severely injuring both of them. Messen
gers were at once sent lor physicians,
and Drs. W. F. Tompkins ami Candler
soon reached the wounded men who had
been removed on stretchers to their
homes not far from the mine. Thos,
Ivnsley received injuries from which he
died Sunday evening. While Henry is
severely injured, it is thought that hc'will
recover. They are both sons of Rev. V.
Ivnsley, the well-known Ilaptist minister.
Monroe Register: Tuesday evening
Mr. Leroy Helms was coming to tow n
with a loatl of wood, anil as he was
coining down the hill just beyond
Bearskin creek one of the breast chains
broke ami the mules started on a run
down the hill. Mr. J. F. Hill was in
front with another load of wood, and
Mr. Helms' team ran into Mr. Hill's
load. The wood was scattered and Mr.
Helms was thrown out, his head striking
on a rock and receiving a painful gash,
lie was also paiiilulty, though uol
seriously bruised in the right hip ami left
