A Bad Character.
A St. Louis paper of a recent date snys :
. J. Boyle, the ex-priest of the Roman
"Catholic church, who is now on trial for
his life at Raleigh, N. C. charged with
outraging Geneva Whitaker in May, was
well known in this city a year ago. and
has !een here at an even later date.
Noyle's reputation while here was best
known to the police, and he is given a
vcrv bad character. About one year ago
he officiated ut u Catholic church in u
small town in Illinois, but left iudisgrnce.
having contrived to raise a large sum ol
nionev for the purpose of building a new
church, and having then come to St.
Louis to spend it among fast women.
About a vear ago officer Carr arrested
the man at a house on Spruce street for
disturbing the jieacc. on complaint of out
fit the inmates. He was let off with an
easv fine, but was subsc(cntly brought
up in the same court a number of times.
The Boulanger bubble has burst. The
would lie hero lost his chance when he
ran away from France to avoid prosecu
tion. He then carried on a pajier war
fare, which is not to the taste of the
French hero worshippers. His method?
were as effective as that of the old
Chinese methods of making war, when
the facing hostile ranks made mouths at
each other, or made position intcnalilt
by a mutual bomdarmcnt of stink pots.

Mint Anna Aston at Charlotte.
Miss Aston arrived in tliecity yesterday
from Concord and delivered a lecture on
temperance in the afternoon at the Met h

hfty ladies. Miss Aston's object is to form
the voting ladies into societies auxiliary
