The grasshoppers, a large swarm, and the bigeest we think we ever saw, have swooed down upon Durham and seem to be "taking in" the town. This morn ing our streets were lined with them and at nearly every entrance and door way there were congregated from live to a dozen. Many of our citizens were catch ing them and feeding them to chickens and birds. They swarmed around the electric lights last night. One lady remarked this morning, that before the lights were extinguished at her house last night she heanl an incessant popping on the win dow panes and it alarmed her to some extent. She did not know what it was at first but afterwards discovered that the noise was made by these giass hopjers. Where they came from no one seems to have an idea. An old darkey this mor -ing advanced a very plausible theory. He says some old field must be on fire and it has driven them out and they are seeking shelter in town. KnttiuHed Over Preuelier File.
