Tucsdav, and in corroboration of this
declaration lie sends the written state
ment of several other Northern corrts
pondents wlio were with him at the
time that he was in Jackson ward, and
who represent that Si tisscy had no sort
of a quarrel or light at all. The Pis
patch published the original account
upon the information ot several persons
who trulv believed that the stranger
with whom l'rcston had the dillicullv
was Musscy, anil thus having uninten
tionally wronged him, chcerlully gives
place to this correction.

was some excitement here to-day caused
bv the rumor that a party from South
Boston, would come to laiivillc to-night
and Ivnch three negroes confined in I'an
ville jail, charged with having been mem
bers of the gang who tired Irom ambush
at Hon. K. I. Noblin ami other white
men near South Mostoti, Tuesday night.
The mavor ordered out the military, and
thciail 'is well guarded. The prisoners
will lie protected at all hazards, and
Danville will not allow them to fall into
the hands of the mob so long as con
fined in her jail. The three men have
confessed that they were with the mob
of negroes in Halifax, and heard them
make their plans to waylay the white
men, hut dcuv that they took part in the
shooting. The ringleader has not been

The Harnell Commission.
London, November 7. I'poti the open
ing of the session of the I'arnell commis
sion to-day. Sir Henry James resumed
his spcccli'in behalf of the Times, lie
read extracts from speeches made by
I'arnell and Ravin and others, in which
the speaker had advocated boycotting.
Sir Henry contended that persons who
had made these speeches were responsible
for the crimes in Ireland following their
Sir Charles Kusscll, formerly of the
counsel for I'arnell, was present in the
court room to-day for the first time since
the withdrawal of the I'arnell counsel.
A Navassa Rioter Jailed.
H.m.timok i-, November 7. In thcl'tuted
States circuit court to-day arguments in
the habeas corpus ease of Henry Jones,
one of the Navassa rioters, were con
cluded and the petitioner remanded to
jail. His counsel took an appeal to the
supreme court of the I'nited States. The
court holds that there is inherent power
in the I'uited States loacipiirc possession
and jurisdiction of this island by its dis
covery bv a citizen of the I'nited Slates.
This power has been legalized by con
gress, and. if the tacts required exist, the
provisions are complied with, and our
nossession and lunsiliction is complete
offences committed there are punishable
as though commuted on American slii

term of the supreme court handed down
decisions to-day, among them being the
long expected one in the caseof the North
Kivcr Sugar Kefming Company, which
was sometime ago incorporated in the
sugar trust. The opinions are written in
the case bv judges Daniels and Van
lirunt, affirming the decision of Judge
Iiarrett ordering the dissolution of the
