An Accident at Aiken.
Aiken, December 11. A very unfortu
nate accident occurred this afternoon at
4 o'clock to Jack Fields during the firing
of salutes iu honor of Jefferson Davis.
It seems that the cannon was loaded
with hard red clay, and when the fust
was touched oft the clav and powder to
gether took effect in Field's body and
head, he being only a few yards in front
of the gun. A large part of his temph
was blown off, and his back was terribh
lacerated. He will probably die.
