tion for a charier ol the Asheville Fast
Line and Suburban railroad, ill the mcet
ittg of the Hoard of Aldermen last night,
lie had the charier written in due form
and secilying the route on which
the eoniiiativ proposes to build. His
route, as given last night, is as follows:
From near the Western North Carolina
railroad to Sotithside avenue, up South
side avenue to South Main street, tip
Valley street to Sycamore, up Sycamore
to South Main, and up Valley lo College,
across or with College to Locust, thence
to Chailolle and across Charlotte to
the corporation line, thence across the
city to Pearson's bridge and up the river
to the beginning. Capt, Atkinson's as

Aaron Washington, colored, who lives

ol a brick kiln, which he said was within
thirty-live leel of his house, and said he
was afraid the heat caused by hurtling
ihe kiln would endanger his house. An

to any house in the city was pasted and

ties owning the brick kiln of the ordi
nance. Mr. (. A. Shiiloril, as a tax payer,
called the attention of the Hoard to the
quality of the brick used ill paving the

nounced until for the purpose by couiie-

told him that if he would read the eon
tract he would find that the citv was
thoroughly protected by it from any im-.-rlcctions

there is such a provision in the contract,

UNBOUNDED HOSPITALITY.

Citizens of Asheville me often enter
tained with criticisms upon the hospital
ity mid sociability of their city. Some
visitors to the city have been very severe
in criticism of this sort and the citizens of
other pliiees have expressed like opinions.
Asheville lias borne these criticisms very
meekly and have admitted that as Ashe
ville was not ipiitc perfect, it might be
that her lack was in Ibis direction.
Nut the approaching Cicticral Assembly
bids fair to prove an effective answer to
this criticism. The prospect at present
is that every member will be entertained
by some one of the citizens, and not only
every number, but even- wile or mother
or daughter that comes, and also many
of those who will visit the city for their
own pleasure.
The full significance of this will appear
only when it is known that as a rule the
church in which the Assembly meets has
a large board-bill to a, o quests for
whonrentei Iniumctil is not provided. In
a city not a thousand miles from Ashe
ville, and not many years ago, the bills
amounted to over ?l,00ii. The Presby
terian church here does nut expect at
present to payout-cent for board because
the gcncnni and wariu-hcartcd hospital
ity of the residents will make this unnec

of the South, and it is the strongest dis
prool possible of the criticism made
upon it.
