The work of the census enumerator in
the eastern district of this city will iu nil
probability be completed by to-morrow
night. The enumerator for the western
district was three duys lute beginning his
work, and his time bus been extended.
The period allowed by law will expire
Juue 30th nud he will not Ik through be
lore July 2nd.
A CITIZEN rejiorter went on a tour ol
investigation yesterday afternoon, with
a view to finding out something about
the work done in the city. In the course
of his wanderings, about 6(1 per cent, ol
those iipproachcd had not been iucs
lioncd by the vmintcrator at alt, and ol
those who had been, nlHiut 50 per cent
had not Ikx-ii asked questions 22 and 2.1.
These are the ones relating to chronic
and acute discuses nud physind and men
Ir. W. 1. Milliard did not rcniemlier
whether or not the questions had Iwcn
put to him, but remarked that it would
have liecn no use for he would not have
given answers to them. This would
rather seem to indicate that thccpicstions
had not been asked.
IC. E. Hrowu wasanotheronctowhoin
these questions had not been put. The
enumerator also failed to enquire of Mr.
W. II. Marx if he was ntllicted in this
way. Mr. W. H. Williamson gave iu the
statistics for quite a number of icrsons.
.mil in no case were the questions asked.
. II. Weaver did not answer the ques
tions referred to. 11. F. P. Hright had
been questioned by one of the enumera
tors and reHirled that he was not asked
those questions. RoUrt I'inlay, J. W.
Schartle and J. II. Lee were not it tcrro-
ated on those points at all.
From these interviews it would seem as
if cither the enumerators had I wen derelict
in their duty or had lieen told at the cen
tral office that they might use tlnir dis
cretion about asking these questions. In-
piiry of Mr. Morris proved it to lc the
