Keobxk Constitution Democrat: Tbe Illinois legislators who were elected on a great cry of reform are breaking the record for a long ses sion, little work done and big deal s witb corporations. It goes witbout saying that the Illinois legislature is strongly republican. The democratic central committee of Clark county appointed delegates to tbe state convention, lne com' mittee unanimously adopted the fol lowing resolution: "Resolved, That it is the sense of this committee that full v 95 per cent of ' the democratic voters of Clark countv are in favor of the free coinage of silver at 16 to 1, where it stood before demonetized by tbe republican party in 1873, and that tbe delegates to the state con vention are herebv instructed to cast the vote of Clark countv in said con vention in accordance with this res- lutioo." Secretary of State Himuchsen has just had tbe finishing touches placed upon that portion of the state house building that was damaged by tbe recent nre near tbe senate cbani ber. The woodwork has all been re placed, as well as the tin, zinc and other work, making the roof just as rood as new. The entire cost was $392. tO, which lacks a great deal of being as much as estimated while the building was in flames. One SpringtieluV press correspondent placed the damage at 1,360,000. Vy dint of much perseverance and haid work, says the Register, Secretary of State Hinrichsen has placed the state honse grounds in a wonderfully beautiful condition, aid they now look better and prettier than in vears. Tbe trees on the lawn have Wen whitened for several feet up and trimmed at their tops, giving them a handsome - appearance. Much trouble has. always been had with "the grass, the soil underneath being mostly refuse from the work of erecting the building, and composed largely of brick, cinders and clay. Last fall the top soil was carefully removed and many loads of rich black dirt placed underneath the sod. Th'.s has given the grass new life, and will make it more beautiful than ever before.
