As to Terminal Changes.
Mr. Hitt had nothing of importance
to say with reference to the new de

of the west division freight crews to
Moline. In fact, in answer to an in
inquiry regarding the latter matter,
he claimed that if change of the

INJURY TO VEGETATION.
Weather of the Past Week Has Iteen Un
The Illinois crop bulletin for the
week ending April '2 says:
"The first part of the past week was
moderately warm, but rainy weather
prevailed about the middle of the
week, and this was followed by unsea
sonably cold weather. Frosts oc
curred generally throughout the state,
and in the northern part the cold was
sufficiently intense to freeze the soil
to considerable depth. These condi
tions have been unfavorable to the
germination and growth of vegeta
tion, and in a few localities poatiive
injury is feared to have resulted
Over the southern part of the state
rains have generally been heavy
enough to greatly retard farming op
erations, but in the northern part the
rains were lighter and scarcity inter
rupted ftrm work. In many parts of
the northern districts more rain is
needed. Wheat and rye are generally
reported to be in excellent condi
tion, though the growth is slow.
There is decreased apprehension
as to the effect of the Hessian
fly, though in a fjw localities
the damage by this pest is reported
to have increased. Oat seeding is
almost finished throughout most of
the state, but unfavorable conditions
have delayed this work to a large ex
tent in some localities. In many
places tho plant already shows above
the ground and is growing nicely.
It is feared, however, in some locali
ties tbat the 6ced is rottirjg in the
ground. Grasses continue to look
well, but the growth is slow because
of cold weather. There is some fear
of damage to young clover expressed.
Considerable work of preparing corn
ground has been accomplished, but
this work has not yet become gen
eral. Some early corn has been
planted in the southern part of tbe
state. Some gardening and potato
planting has bten done, but unfavor
able conditions have greatly retarded
this work. The fruit prospects gen
erally continue excellent, but it is
feared tbat frosts have caused some
dtmage in a few localities, especially
to early froits."

The following is a recipe approved by the best of cooks:
Three ounces of Runkel Brothers Chocolate, grated, one-quarter
pound of sugar, one and one-half pints of cream, one and one-half
ounces gelatine, the yolks of six eggs. Beat the yolks of the eggs well;
put them into a basin with the grated chocolste, the sugar and one pint
of cream; stir these ingredients well together, pour them into a basin
and set this basin in a saucepan of boiling water; stir it one way until
the mixture thickens, but do not allow it to boil, or it will curdle. Strain
the cream through a sieve, stir in the gelatine and the other one-half
pint of cream, which should be well whipped; mix all well together,
and pour it into a mould which has been previously oiled with the purest
salad-oil and set it in ice until ready for the table.
In preparing dessert keep in mind the food value of
Runkel Brothers' Chocolate. This and the facility with
which it is prepared makes the housekeeper decide in
favor of Runkel's.
