land mayor is now laying his plans to
be a ca'ndidate for the democratic
presidential nomination three years

ing in the community.
"I have known for some time," he
said, "that Mayor Johnson ia looking
ahead to the presidential campaign of
1904. and that if be is successful in
the plans which he has made he will
be a candidate for the democratic
nomination for president. Many peo
ple think he will be a candidate for
United States 6enator this fall, but he
will not be.
Mayor Johnson will be a candidate
for reelection a year from next falL
lie would like to see a democratic leg
islature elected this fall, and if one is
elected, you may rest assured that
Mayor Johnson will never agree to
the election of John R- McLean as
United States senator. Some friend
of Mayor Johnson would be elected.
Mr. Johnson fully expects to be
reelected mayor or. Cleveland two
years from now. He will then be a
candidate for governor of Ohio. If
elected governor of Ohio, he will then
be a full-fledged candidate for the
