THE AIIO-US, Til UBS DAY, JULY 1C, 1903. KODOL DtfestsWati We a Ite. Are due to indigestion. Ninety-nine of everyone hundred people who have heart trouble can remember when It was simple indigestion. It is a scien tific fact that all cases of tieart dis ease, not organic, are not only trace able to. but are the direct result of indigestion. All food taken into the stomach which fails of perfect diges tion ferments and swells the stomach, puffing it up against the heart. This interferes with the action of the heart, and in the course of time that delicate but vital organ becomes diseased. Hodlol Digests What You Eat - Mrs. Lorlng Nichols of Penn Yan. N. Y.. writes: After eating, my food would distress me by making my heart palpitate and I would become very weak. Finally I eot a bottle cf Kodol and it save me Immediate relief. GO TO WESTEKN PAET OF STATE Are Lrftokinjr for Cheaper Lauds and Less Hostile Sur roundiugH. Central Illinois is about to loe the -queer people known as the Amish, now located in a colony near l'looin ington. While all may not go, it is ccitain that a considerable number have decided to leave. It has been learned that agents have been busily engaged for several mouths in buy ing land in western Illinois, a few miles south of Keokuk, la., in what is known as the Lima lake district. Op ticus have been secured upon 10.000 acies of the best tracts in the vicinity and fully .$::0,uOO paid to hold them, demonstrating that there is abund ance of means behind the buyers. La ml can be bought in the vicinity mentioned all the way from $-5 to $45 per acre. It is presumed that the enormous increase in the cost of central Illinois lands has something to do with the exodus. Some farms there have sold this ear at from $175 to $110 per acre, the increase in the past 5 years ranging from $50 to $1(H) per acre. The unfriendliness of the people in the vicinity toward their religion may have something to 'do with the departure. Ever since the Sam Morse murder there has "been more or less feeling throughout central Illinois against the Amish ami t heir tenets of faith, and the recent suicide of Frederick Schult., has revived the talk. C auxl Speculation. The purchase of so much land near Keokuk has created a vast amount of speculation there as to the probable elTect the colonization will have upon the agricultural, religious, political and commercial situation there. The lama lake district is close to the junc tion of three states. The heavy pur chase of lands has greatly increased the value of all property m the vicin ity. The Amish sect is communistic in many ways and is governed more by the laws of the church than by those of the state. The members are not allowed to participate in wars and their home furnishings must lie severely plain, no carpets being allow ed upon the floors nor pictures or fancy wall paper upon the walls. Wives and husbands must be selected by the church and after marriage the couple must live apart one week be fore being permitted to remain to- fr.ttl,... filial,!, Td 1 !w fi 1 1. hti-oT tit SX, . i,l-,.'l.l.. Sehultz was worth $100,000 at the timeof hisdeath. It isalleged that when two of his daughters became believers in the Amish religion they left the Lutheran church' and also succeeded in taking their mother with them. Sehultz could not be pursuaded to fol-low--them and this invited trouble. When Mrs. Sehultz joined the church she is said to have been forbidden by thet preacher to have anything more to do with her husband or the other members of the family who remained outside the pale of the church". While living in the same house with them, she was not allowed to speak with them or eat at the same table. She was "also directed not to wait upon them in case of sickness, nor attend their funeral if they should die. She obeyed this order faithfully, it is said, and Sehultz became subject to tits of temporary insanity, due to constant brooding over the ostracism. It has developed that the same pas tor who commanded Mrs. Sehultz to give up her 'husband also excommuni- eated Sam Moser, of Tazewell coun ty, who killed his entire family be cause they were ordered to have noth ing to do with him until he joined the Amish church. Moser is serving a life sentence for his crime. TIPS TO TRAVELERS $5 to St. Paul and return ia the Kock Island .Inly 20. $5 to Minneapolis and return via the Kock Island Julv 20.
