LOUIS Where Itnio and DUertce Await Thousands Daring the World's Pair. An appeal was made today, by let ter, for the cooperation of the chris tian women of Rock Island in the work of the Women's Christian Association of St. Louis, designed for th; protec tion of young women ambitious for employment in St. Louis during the world's fair. In their appeal to Rock Island peo ple for aid the officers of the associa tion declare that traps leading to ruin have been set for thousands of young women from all parts of the land, promises of many kinds of hon orable occupation being made by men of vile purposes. 10 in any uegre meet this mons ter." says the letter of appeal in part, "all must unite in a general protective plan. one effective way is to organize a travelers a 11 where there is none. First, by appointing a committee for this service in one of your local or ganization to be known as 'travelers aid committee.' Work fur Chnrcbea. "The other plan is to organize by selecting a woman of your place foi president, who has a heart for the work and ability to lead; also a cap able secretary and treasurer. Add others for your committee work who should be a safeguard for vour young women. This form of work can be organized in out church or by all uniting. This appeal is made to unify the protective forces that may be promptly available. "If any voting women have been in duced by a stranger to visit or seek employment in St. Louis, during the exposition, sound the note of alarm. There is danger. Let every young wo man, unattended ty a friend, see to it: First, that she has money enough with her for an emergency ; nd safe re turn home; second, know from a re liable source her destination lie re is safe before she leaves home; third, de pend upon herself ami officials on the railroad for information concerning trains. Any added intelligence neces sary you must reserve for 'travelers' aid,' referred to in following paragraph: Watch the Trains "One of ycur committee should be at the railroad st.it ion -at tram time. As your introduction of any young woman leavintr for ht. I.ouis, to the representative of the 'travelers' aid" here, pin a kr.ot of blue ribbon upon her wai-t, left side, and instruct hei to find a woman at the waitinc room it union station who wears a blue badge with 'travelers aid of the Wo men's Christian asociation. St. Louis.' printed on it in gold letters. They are to be found at above place at the time of incoming and outgoing trains. 'The Women's Christian association will be willing to interrogate by let ter or telegram, and do all in their power to save. Jmt. remember, the greatest success must lie with you where the numbers are so much less than in St. Louis at this time. 'Hoping this appeal may be prompt ly approved and this work inaugurated by which effort many may be saved from a fate worse than death, we sub- cribe ourselves, yours in Christian ser ice. Hie revival or "twelfth Night, one of the most delicious of the Shakes pearean ct mciiies, with Miss Marie Wainwright in the role of A'iola, was enjoyc'3 at the Illinois last evening but the attendance was very small for such a deserving attraction. Miss Wainwright, who will be remembered in years gone by as one of the lead- cmotional e.ctresses of the coun- having appeared in support inS try some of dom, is unusual in support 01 the brightest lights in tar urrosmded by a company of strength. She makes much cf the character that she assumes but by no means pretends to be the star of the performance, those shar ing the honors with her being Met a Rogers as Olivia. Francis CVnlan a Malvolio. J. K. Applebee r.s Sir Toby Spottiswoode Aitkin as Sir Andrew, Dudley Kellard as Sebastian, sister of Olivia. Arthur A. Johnson as Orsino and Leonine Randolph as' Maria. The staging was adequate, the musical ac companiment enhancing the iniprcs- si vencss of the performance to a con siderable degree. The play is to be presented this evening at the Burti in Davenport. ' A dramatization of Ibsen's "Ghosts one of the theatrical sensations of two seasons, is booked for a perform ance here next Tuesday evening. The company is headed by Alberta Gal latin. Next Wednesday we are to have visit from Al G. Field's minstrels. "The Missouri Girl," a play of "Th. Old Homestead" ortler, is the attrac tion for Sunday evening. The revival is by Messrs. Nix on and Zimmerman. 'ami is the most elaborate even given this popular pro duction.
