The young- man's name is Civile Gierliart. Constable Costello heard that the voting man had seen Atwell the day he went awaj', and Gierliart was induced to go before n justice and tell his story. Gierliart and Atwell played pool together in a saloon the afternoon of his disappear ance. Later in t he afternoon Gier liart met Atwell near the railroad crossing on htate street and the lorn- wall farmer inquired the time of the departure of trains for the west. He was told he could g-et a westbound train at S:40. ami he said that would suit him., as he wanted to go west. From this ami other statements that Atwell is believed to have made, it is now believed that ho has gone west. The men were not in the best condi tion to control the horse, and when the animal shied at a huge cake of ice they pulled him to the right and went over the side into the ditch. Keegan jumped and called to Seanlon to do the same. Put the latter went down with the rig-. Keegan swam to a tele phone pole and held on. calling- lustily for help. After he had been in the water fur about an hour, a neighbor heard his cries and came to ihe res cue, taking- hitn out f his perilous sit nation. I tody In Wire rence. It was too late to search for the body of Seanlon." and the next morning- a party went out again and found Scanlon's remains washed ttp against a woven wire fence and under five feet of water. The buggy was found under water, turned over on its side, but the horse had broken aw a 3' and saved itself. At the inquest a verdict was ren dered of accidental drowning-. Sean lon was "il 3 ears of agv and unmar ried. He was a carpenter by trade. PERSONAL, POINTS.
