SOME SUPERSTITIONS OF
THE SHAVER AND SHAVED
Jf You Would Guard Against Bad
Luck, Never Allow Mustache
to Go first.
Barbers are superstitious and so are
the "barbered It is nip and tuck as
to wLo has tbe moot good and bad
nick omens. Many men who are per
fectly rational on moat subjects have
a superstitious fear of the ill luck
of the barber's chair, and they are set
in their beliefs and fears by the con-
rtant good and bod luck ideas ad
vanced by the w letters of tbe razor.
If you would guard against every
fortu of bad luck never permit a bar
ber to shave your mustache before be
do your chin. Adherents of barber
shop omens say this is the very worst
thins that can befall a man. It is also
claimed that If the mustache Is shared
first a good crop of beard can never
be grown, no matter how much tonic
and hair producers the artist may use
a a cents per use. Never occupy a
chijr just vacated by a pug-nosed
man. Any barber will tell you bo
dislikes to shave a pug-nosed custom
er, and bootblacks will give tbem a
wide berth. But the individual who
causes a dead set back on the part of
the razor wielder is the stammering
man. Barbers declare It almost Im
possible to shave a stammerer without
Dipping bim with the razor. Stam
mering simply gets a barber's nerves
unstrung and he cannot handle hi
razor.
Men thoroughly familiar with bar
ber shop superstitions always have
their shoes shined while being shaved.
Most barbers confess to tbe annoy
ance of the bootblack, but confess it
means good luck to the customer. No
baber will make an attempt to use
a -white handled razor to shave a red
headed man. lie would never sue
cel In doing more than making tho
fellow's face look like a porterhouse
steak. Barbers, however, claim that
red-headed men who do their own
work or "keep Individual razors nearly
always have white-handled razors.
The limit on razors for a busy day's
work is three for a barber. If they
sharpen more than this number bad
luck will follow. .
The 'man who gets shaved before
breakfast will run in luck the entire
day. but If he shaves himself before
his morning's meal bad luck will fol
low him. The man who smokes dur
ing the time he Is getting shaved will
never sufTer from a raw face. If you
carry a rabbit's foot don't show it to
your barber, for it will take the charm
away. Nearly all barbers are believ
ers in tbe efficacy of the rabbit foot,
but they never exhibit the foot, keep
ing it always in the left pocket of their
troutters. If tbe barber makes a lath
er mug of your car don't object, for
your ear may be more sanitary than
the mug which be uses to lather hun
dreds of customers.
