ed regular session. Mayor McCa&krin
presiding, all the aldermen present.
The clerk read a communication from
C. U Walker, president, and J. W.
Weich, secretary of the board of di
rectors of the public library, certifying
that it requires the sum of $10,000 to
be levied as a special tax for the public
library building fund, and that that
amount must be Included in the annual
appropriation ordinance, and also in
the ordinance for the levy of taxes for
the fiscal year 1905. required to be
passed by the council, by the statutes
of the state. Alderman Anderson mov
ed the communication be received and
referred to the committee of the whole,
for consideration in making the annual
appropriation. Adopted by unanimous
The council then went into commit
tee of the whole, with Alderman Sex
ton In the chair. When the committee
rose. Alderman Sexton offered the fol
lowing resolution, which was adopted
by unanimous vote:
Wnereas, The anticipated revenues
of the city of Rock Island for the fiscal
year, 19o5, aside from the general tax
levy, and otherwise, will be about one
hundred fifteen thousand, two hundred
eleven dollars and seventeen cents

tributed in the several funds as fol

Alderman Sexton reported the ordin
ance agreed upon, and moved that the
ordinance appropriating $86,970.06 to
be provided for by the general tax levy
for the current fiscal year, be cousid-
Alderman Kckhart moved the adop
tion of the ordinance as read. Adopted
by unanimous vote.
Alderman Anderson offered a reso;
lution instructing the clerk to demand
mil collect from the Tri-City Railway
company the sum of $2,000 as provided
for in the ordinance, for strengthening
the Rock river bridges. Iaid over un

Alderman Robbing moved the report
of the health commissioner be receiv
ed and placed on file. Adopted.
Alderman Brooks moved that when
the council adjourn it be to Tuesday
afternoon at 2 o'clock, to inspect the
Rock river bridges. Adopted.
Alderman Wilson presented a peti
tion for paving of Twenty-sixth street
between Third and Fifth avenues. Re
ferred to the board of local improve
Alderman Trenkenschuh presented a
petition asking for a sidewalk grade on
Fourteenth street, between Eleventh
and Twelfth avenues. Referred to the
street and alley committee.
The mayor presented the name of
Peter J. Frey for appointment as as
sistant chief of the fire department.
Affirmed by unanimous vote.
