siding and all the aldermen present.
Aid. Blochlinger presented a resolu
tion of sympathy with the family of
the late Charles G. Youngberg over hi
untimely death. Adopted by a rising
vote.
The minutes of the last regular aad

Aid. Anderson, from the finance com
mittee, presented an ordinance, which
was considered and adopted by unani
mous vote, allowing claims against
the several funds as follows, after at
taching thereto a bill of H. E. Krell for
J900 for grading the Twentieth street
sidewalk, and a bill from H. B. Hub
bard, county clerk. 1117, for costs in
the Fifteenth street improvement pro

C. V. Thatcher, agent of the C, R. I.
& P. Railway company, stating that
the crossing on First street and Sixth
avenue has been replanked. Receiv
ed and placed on file.
The clerk read the bond of W. E. Bai
ley in the sum of $300 to construct
cement walks on Seventeenth street
and Twelfth avenue.
Aid. Robbins moved that the bond be
accepted. Carried.
The clerk read petitions from the
People's Power company for permis
sion to open pavement to extend ga?
service. Petition granted.
The clerk read petitions from 12. K.
Limp, Allen, Myers & Co. and A. N.
McNeil for permission to make sewer
connections. Referred to the sewer
committee and plumbing inspector with
power to act.
The clerk read a petition from Chan
non & Dufva and E. A. Rounds for the
extension of water mains. Referred
to waterworks committee.
The clerk read a petition from W. C.
Maucker fur permission to replace the
roof of his hotel building and to make
other repairs. Referred to the fire and
light committee.
The clerk read a petition from prop
erty holders on Fifth-and-a-half avenue,
between Twenty-sixth and Twenty
seventh streets, asking that the side-
walks be relaid at the proper grade.

of an electric light switch for the al
leys be referred to the fire and light
committee to report. Carried.

light committee provide horses for the
fire department whore necessary. Car
ried. Aid. Sexton moved that the street
and alley committee, together with the
street commissioner, be instructed to
procure estimates as to the cOst of 30
waste paper boxes and to report with
recommendations. Carried.
Aid. Sexton moved that the street
and alley committee, together with the
street commissioner, procure estimates
of the cost of a street sprinkler, and
report. Carried.
Aid. Sexton moved that the street

Aid. Wilson offered a resolution in
structing the plumbing inspector tr re
pair the catch basins at Fifth-and-a-half.
Sixth and Seventh avenues on
Twenty-seventh street, and at Seventh
avenue and Twe.fth streot. Adopted.
AM. Wilson offered a resolution in
structing the city engineer to furnish
grades for sidewalks in the Sixth ward.
Adopted.
Aid. Blochlinger, from the sewer
committee, reported granting various
persons the right to make sewer con
nections and instructing the plumbing
inspector to locate the obstructions in
the sewer in the alloy between Elev
enth and Twelfth streets and Second
and Third avenues, and the owners be
notified to disconnect their vaults.
Adopted.
Aid. Sexton, from the waterworks
and special committee, recommended
the purchase of a pump. Report adop
ted. Aid. Anderson moved that the coni
miitee heretofore acting on the mat
ter and the mayor and city clerk be
authorized to investigate and report
the cost of a new pump and report".
Carried.
Aid. O'Conner moved that the mat
ter of the grade for a sidewalk on
Thirteenth street be referred to the
board of local improvements. Carried.
Aid. O'Connor presented a petition
asking that sidewalk grades be estab
lished on the east side of Fourteenth
street, between Eighth and Ninth ave
nues. Referred to the street and alley
committee and city engineer.
Aid. O'Connor offered a resolution in
structing the street commissioner to
cut the grass on all boulevards in the
city immediately. Adopted.
Aid. O'Connor moved that the matter
of a correct grade for a sidewalk at j
I John Taylor's premises be referred to
city engineer. Carried.
Aid. Eckhart offered a resolution that
the city clerk ask for bids and proposi
tions for the installation of a modern
fire alarm system. Adopted.
