Farmers' Institute for Rock Is
land County to be Held
at Taylor Ridge.

farmers' institute have returned from
(laleslnirg, where they attended yester
day the conference of the institute offi
cers of the Fourteenth and Fifteenth
congressional districts with Frank II.
Hall of Aurora, superintendent of the
Illinois farm Institute work. It was de
cided to hold the Rock Island county
institute for next winter at Taylor
Ridge Jan. 9-1 n. Mercer and Hender
son counties were the only ones not
represented at the meeting.
Professor Hall was in charge of the
meeting. He stated the object of the
session to he for the purpose of nam
ing dates, selecting speakers, topics

He explained that since the passage o
the farmers institute bill, a meeting of
the executive committee and the su
ptrintendent was held with the dean of
ihe college of agriculture, at which
time arrangements were made rrlativ
to the appointment of speakers from
the agricultural college and experiment
It is planned as far as practicable to
tend to each two or three day institute
one specialist and one speaker who will
present in a more general manner some
part or parts of the work done at thu
college and station. The dean will send
to each one day institute either a spe
cialist or an "agricultural extension
man. as may ie preieriert. i tie spe
c lalist that has been employed is Jo
seph Carter, who for years was at tie
head of the Champaign schools.
The general subjects which are to b;
presented are agricultural extension
agronomy, animal husbandry, dairy
husbandly, horticulture and veterinary
science. In addition, there will be two
departments of new work opened up
household science and road and brid;
