Fountain to Be Unveiled.
Friday, July 10 has been set as the
date for the dedication of Long View
.park, and a big celebration has been
arranged for by the board of park
commissioners and the committees of
the Rock Island Club; the Booster
club and the Industrial commission.
A met ting of these committees with
the park board was held last evening
at the office of , Hon. William Jack
bon, president of the park board, and
an organization was effected by the
election of John W. Parker as chair
man and E. B. McKown as secretary.
In addition to the board and the com
mittees, the conference was attended
'by Mayor Schaffer and the members
of the city council.
President Jackson made a state
ment of the plans of the board and
offered suggestions as to the dedica
tion. As-a result that committees se
lected July ( as the date, and prac
tically completed the plans for the
celebration.
Will he In Aflrrnimn.
. The dedication will take place in the
afternoon at 3 o'clock. The merchants
and business houses of the city will be
asked to close their stores and offices
for the afternoon, and the day will be
set aside as a general, holiday. Judge
William H. Gest has been selected as
master of cercmouies for the day, and
he will deliver an address at 'the after
noon exercises. President Jackson of
the park commissioners will also de
liver an address, and make a statement
of the work accomplished and In con
templation for the Improvement of the
park. Mayor Schaffer will speak on
behalf of the city.
Will Inveil Fountain.
B. D. Connelly, on behalf of the
Misses Catherine and Naomi Daven
port, donors of the Davenport memor
ial, fountain at the park, -will formally
present the fountain to the city. The
fountain will be unveiled by the Misses
Cora II. Gaetjer and Cora M. McKown.
Music will be furnished during the
afternoon and evening by bands, and
patriotic selections will be sung by a
chorus cf young ladies under tne di
rection of E. L. Philbrook. A big dis
. '"y of fireworks in the evening will
co "hide the celebration.

No effort will be spared to make the
occasion a fitting celebration of. the
completion of the initial work of beau
tifying the grounds, and an expression
of.the public gratitude to the men who
provided this tract of practically 40
acres of land and to- those who have
contributed toward its improvement.
Ihe general interest in the event in
sures the favorable action of the busi
ness men on the request, to close their
stores for the afternoon, and the day
will be one of the i in port-ant holidays
of the year in Rock Island.
