Xot only was his pitching responsible for "keep ing the score down, but in the lar.t half of the ninth, with the count tied and a man on third he banged out v. ball to the fence, bringing in the win ning score and ending the contest. Ho left at once to join Cincinnati, it bav ins been decided to send him at once instead of waiting for the end of the season. Xeal pitched well for Rock Island, but his support slipped up in spots. Collins made his first error of th-i season on Wise's fly hi the fifth and Stark's hit scored him. In the sixth Swacina singled and Kelley brought him over with a double. Cedar Rapids counted in the second on Wise's error, on Saillard's grounder, a steal and a hit by Clemens. In the sixth Berger erred on SwatoshV grounder. the runner was sacrificed along and Saillard's hit brought him home. He is a pitcher, Foster is a big amateur who appears to have the makings of a pitcher. Louie Cook, last year manager of the Rock Island team, has resigned as manager of Quincy in the Central association because of the knocking of home fans. He at onced. joined Decatur, where he will play second base. Roudebush has been released to make room for him. Roudebusli is a good hitter, but his errors are costly. Manager Donnelly of Peoria has protested Saturday's game at Bloom ington which the latter won 7 to 1 on the grounds that he was removed from the grounds under arrest at the instance of the Bloomington directors and without the sanction of the um pire. Novacek and Donnelly, during the contest, engaged in a chewing match and James invited Frank around back of the grandstand, it is asserted. Frank went and at this stage the directors put the constable on his trail. Muni Warrender was released by the Davenport management today. It was given out that his hitting has been a disappointment, hut the real reason for his being dropped is believed to have been a falling out between himself and Manager Shaffer some days ago. The Prodigals will go south with a new man slated for third. Harmouth, the recent acquisition, is to take Reitz's place at the far corner, and Murray, if he makes good, will be kept in left.
