the: Hornr istsknd iaitgtts, sioxesxy, matt s, isit. : - r ; r r r . i j i r i . r The 'Rock Island Southe y 1 - Railway Company rn Run Their Cars Between Rock Island and Galesburg and Stop at All the Following Towns: J v- ' -f Milan, Taylor Ridge, Reynolds, Southern Junction, Mathersville, Gilchrist, Aledo, Burgess, Norwood, Shaws, Springdale, Cedar Hill, Riverside Park and Monmouth, Sullivan, Butler Siding, Cameron, Gales, Galesburg, Aledo. The towns above named with the adjoining country will show about 200,000 population, who practiaclly come .to Rock Island to do their . trading. The road has traffic arrangements with practically every trunk line in the country, handling merchandise via the carload and in L.,C. L. shipments from all eastern and 'western territory, having a close connection at Cameron, III., with the Santa Fe, at Monmouth with the Iowa Central and C, B. & CL, and at Rock Island with the Rock Island, C, B. & Q. and C, M. & St. P. v ?? 1 The power house is located at Mathersville, 111., . where they have two Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing company steam turbines of 1,250 K. W. each. In the boiler r house there are installed 2,500 horse power Babcock & Wilcox boilers, equipped with green-chained grates and stokers, ash and-coal carrying machinery, with overhead coal bunkers for storing 800 tons of coal. This power plant is said to be . " the finest plant west of Mew York and is the only plant of this character in this section of the country. ' Electric equipment for passenger and Express cars is the Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing company's. .The company also has 250 stock and furniture cars, beside 250 coakcarsals0-d6 passenger electric coaches. The electric cars were purchased from Haskell & Barker Car company, MfcfifgaiClty,nd. 1 The road is amply equipped to handle all freight that they receive. The Chicagor Rock Island & pacific Railway company have installed a 1,500 ton steel tipple In their - ' coal mine at Mathersville and are hoisting 1,200 tons per day. The Alden Coal company has also installed and fully equipped a duplicate of the one mentioned above and are hoisting the same amount of coal per day. This large amount of coaJ is all hauled and handled overhe rails of the Rock Island Southern railway. There are also two brick yards between-Aledo & Gilchrist on the line, with a capacity of 20 cars per day. The officials of the Rock Island Southern desire It to be plainly understood that they are ready and anxious to bring their cars up to the center of Rock Island, as they feel it will be to the benefit of every merchant in Rock Island if the cars were brought up. The Rock Island Southern has been running into the outskirts of Rock Island for the past nine months every three hours, bringing in hundreds of people each day and are now contemplating putting on an hour, and a half schedule in order, to make it easy for your neinhbors in the above mentioned townsrso as to have plenty of time to-make their purchases and get home on- the same day. K ' - y Now that the Rock Island Southern has shown ' good faith in bringing their road into this city and are giving the people such good service, it is up to the city of Rock Island to set busy and get their trains into-the .center, of the town. 9 . t
