The executive council of the Men's
Federation cf Rock Island met last
evening at the association house to
name the committees for the coming
year and transact other businese of
importance, a general meeting was
called for September, the date and
place to be left to the committee on
meeting place and entertainment. The
work of the various committees was
thoroughly discussed and the scope
of the work of the federation gone
over. The Hock Island club committee
will prest nt anything to the club
which n.rht be of Interest to them and
which lumps up through the federa
tion. The Fifty Thousand committee
will help in the campaign for more
citizens for Uo k Island. The commit

Rev. C. J. Sodergren of Burlington,
Iowa, has accepted the call to the
professorship of philosophy, Greek
Exegesis, and new testament intro
duction in Augustana Theological
Seminary, and will begin hia work at
tbe opening of the seminary Sept. 25.
The chair to which he has been called
was made vacant at the close of la6t
year by the resignation of Dr. S. O.
Y'oungert, who has taken charge of
the Swedish Lutheran congregation In
Hartford, Conn. Professor Sodergren
is an alumnus of Augustana college
and theological seminary of the clasa
of '5L and having finished his theolog
ical course in the same institution
was ordained to the gospel ministry
in 1896. From 1900 to 1904 he held
the position of professor of Christian
ity in Augustana college. For the
last eight years he has been pastor
of the Swedish Lutheran church of
Burlington. Iowa. Professor Soder
gren's work in the congregation and
in the professor's chair has been very
successful, and he is a strong addi
tion to the working force of the sem
inary department. Augustana college
will occupy one whole pae in the
