of Rev. James Morrison j;arnell, the
"marrying parson," under the Mann
act may be conducted In Illinois, Wis
consin and Minnesota. Following his
arrest Monday on charges of violating
the white slave traffic act the govern
ment announced that Darnell will be
removed to Milwaukee for trial before
Judge Geiger in the United States dis
trict court.

It was rumored In the federal build
ing that Miss Soper had turned against
Darnell and that the government would '
get her as the chief complaining wit
ness. It ! understood that she Is un
der surveillance.
Darnell Is a former student In the
divinity school of the University ofj
Chicago. Miss Soper waa a oo-ed at
the university when the two met. Sub
sequently Darnell became pastor of
a church in Kenosha, Wis., and while
thore he lived witi Miss Soper as his
wife. They have one child. He is al-.
leged to have contracted two common
law marriages and one legal marriage
with as many young women.
A marriage license to wed Miss.
Soper was issued to Darnell at Crown
Point, Ind.. on Monday. They were
not married, however.
Darnell was arrested by special
agents of the department cf justice
as he was leaving the office of Richard
J. Cooney, his lawyer. In the Ashland
block. The arrest took Darnell com
pletely by surprise.
Unable to furnish a bond of $5,000,
Darnell was taken to the county jail.
UnitPd States Commissioner Mason
continued his hearing until Feb. 25.

Mra. Minnie Meyer, 48 years old,

was born in Davenport. Oct. 28, 18C6.
and has made this city her liorne all
her life. On Dec. 2.1. 1S84. she was
married to Theodore G. Meyer, who
died March 21. 1911. The survivors
are two children. Hurry Meyer and
Miss Minnie Meyer at home, and one
brother, John Biunk. The funeral will
be held at 2 o'clock Thursday after
noon from the home, with interment

placed on the market shortly, to be dis
tributed among the number cf local
butchers.
Need Workers at Red Cross Rooms
Workers ere needed at the sewing
rooms of the Red Cross society in the
Putnam building, and it is asked that
all Interested devote if possible some
hours of each week to the sewing. A
box will be shipped Thursday, packed
with a variety of articles for the war
sufferers. There is material at the
rooms ready for workers, and those
who do not sew will find plenty .of oc
cupation, and will be made very wel
come, as there are many ways they
can assist materially in the work.

torney, William Hoersch. Mrs. Anna
Phlllppeen yesterday filed suit for dl-,
! vorce against her husband, Henry
Phlllppsen, alleging desertion, drunk-
i enness and non-support. The couple
was married In Muscatine April S,
1S99, and lived together until Jan. 1,
1913. Mrs. Phlllppsen asks for the
custody of the three children. Henry,
aged 10; Helen, aged 6, and Ernest,
aged 4, and asks that the defendant
be barred from all Interest In property
owned by her.

Seattle, Feb. 17. Richard Imento,
a laborer, late yesterday entered the
office of A. M. Lee, assistant general
claim agent of the Northern Pacific
railroad, shot and killed Charles Dry
den, Mr. lee's chief clerk, and shot
and probably fatally wounded R. E.
Patton, another clerk in the office,
Imento who was also known as Nich
olas Kolomenen, was shot and probab
ly fatally wounded by the police.
