Under the above heading the New York
World of Feb. 10, contains an editorial,
of wbuh the following are a few ex
"Physicians and unprofessional men
of sense agree that if people would take
a little or th pains to prevent disease
that they do to have it cured that the
civilized world would be much less like a
vast hoipital than it is now.
But tie idea of a regular and stated
physical examination, even of persons
who arc apparently well, is an excellent
one. The approaches of pulmonary
compia nis, Kianey troubles, and many of
the othor ills that flesh is heir to are so
insidious as not to be apparent to their
victim. In nothing is it
truer man in disease that 'an ounce of
prevention is worth a pound of cure.'"
Thero is a great deal of wisdom in
what tte World remarks. Individuals, as
a rule, lo not give their physical welfare
anemic n, and it is only when alarmed by
the presence of disease itself the con
sciousness of failing strength that at
tention is given to such matters.
Much has been said and written in re
cent ycurs concerning the extreme and
ortentines fatal danger which results
from dc lay in the treatment of kidney
Physicians admit that they cannot con
trol advanced disease in those organs,
and it in doubtful whether they can con
trol it in any stage without the assistance
of Warner's Safe Cure, which is estabs
lished as the only known means which
will reliably prevent and cure this class
Besides, it has been definitely ascer
tained that kidney disease is the real
cause o ill health in most cases where
consumption, heart, brain or nervous dis
orders are supposed to exist, and in con
sequence of such belief many fatal mis
takes bnve been committed bv our best
physicii.ns in treating such disorders,
which are but the symptoms of the dis
ease, whilst they have allowed the real
disease disease of the kidneys to es
cape their notice until too lute.
There is no safer or surer way by
which health can be preserved and dis
ease avprted than the occasional use of
Warners Safe Cure, which will benefit
the "en lines of life," the kidneys, even
if they i.re in a normally healthy state;
while ti e good that will result in case
disease is threatened, or is already pres
ent, can oot be overestimated.
The most careful examination made by
a skillful physician is sometimes unrelia
ble, since this class of disease is extreme
ly deceptive, and seldom openly mani
fests itself until the unsuspecting sufferer
Schwemfurth, the former Rock Island
preache- who proclaimed himself as
Christ, (aid the other day in an interview
with a reporter at Rockford, his present
home: "Yes, I am Christ. I am more
than Christ. I am Almighty God."
When this blasphemous fool was a school
boy up .n Michigan, his playmates used
to call him "Cranky Schweiney." The
New York Herald sent a man to Rock
ford to interview this maniac and im pos
ter, and he thus describes him:
He is an intellectual man of splendid
education and ingratiating address. His
face is exactly like the popular idea of
the appearance of the Savior. He has a
high, white forehead, deep blue ejes,
and a 1 ght auburn beard. He has suc
ceeded ia gaining many converts and be
lievers i a his preposterous and blasphe
mous chiims. One of the first articles of
his creed is that all believers must give
up a ter th of all their worldly goods to
the Lord, and as he plays the part of the
Lord himself, be takes these contribu
tions and deposits them in the Rockford
banks. This famous impostor is esti
mated to be worth about half a million
dollars. He converted a rich old farmer
and got him to give up a magnificent
farm of 8iK) acres l$ing along the Rock
river. On this properly ho has estab
lished a "heaven." He has built a splen
did mansion at a cost of $20,1X10, and
fitted It up like a palace. In the house
with him are nearly one hundred con
verts, most of them women. These he
calls "angels." one of them, "the mate
of his soul," being higher in rank t ban
all the rjst.

Thursday was the golden wedding an
niversary of Mr. and Mrs. James Berry,
of Moline, and it was celebrated in the
afternoon and evening by a large party.
There were about sixty couples of invited
guests present, among those from away,
Mr and Mrs Packard, of Racine, Wis.;
Mrs Ed Ludington and daughter, of Mil
waukee, Wis., and Mr and Mrs Wm
Berry, of Rapids City. Mr and Mrs
Berry are the parents of eight children,
all of whom are living and all were pres
ent on this occasion, save their son
Frank, who lives near Sinnett's addition,
this city. The children are E n Berry,
James Berry, Jr., John Berry and Mrs
George Lee, of Moline, and Wm ferry,
Frank Gerry, Mrs Packard and Mrs Lud
ington. The aged couple received a
great ninny elegant and costly presents.
A flnenpper was also served.

1 den the statement of J. Tremann in
yesterday's Arotjs. The way the trouble
started was this: About 2 o'clock p. m.
Mrs. Strsckfus sent the little girl for five
cents worth of stake for her sister who
has beeti under the doctor's care for three
weeks. The meat smelled so that Mrs.
Streckfia sent the hired girl back with it
and Tremann told her that was good
enough for five cents; so on my way to
Davenport I stepped in to see Tremann
and told him that he sent back a nice ex
cuse oti account of the stinking meat.
He said the meat did not stink. I called
him a li ir an d he doubled up his fist to
strike me, but be was "too slow." About
this tine his younger brother jumped
from th i back room like a lion and both
followed me to the door striking at me,
but did not do me any bodily injury, and
that is what they are hot about.

What pure air is to an unhealthy local

housekeeper, so is Hood's Barsaparilla to
everybody at this season. The body needs
to be thoroughly renovated, the blood

and all other blood disorders are cured by

and successful spring medicine.

IT REMOVED THE PIMPLES .
Round Mountain. Tex.,March 29, '87.
A lady friend of mine has for several
years been troubled with bumps and
pimples on her face and neck, for which
she used various cosmetics in order to
remove them and beautify and improve
her complexion, but these local applica
tions were only temporary and left her
skin in a worse condition.
I recommended an internal preparation
known as Botanic Balm which 1 have
been using and selling about two years;
she used three bottles and nearly all
pimples have disappeared, her skin is
soft and smooth and her general health
much improved. She expresses herself
much gratified, and can recommend it to
all who are thus affected.
