Heroism at Home.
How a les8 our lives seem to us sometimes I
How we long for an opportunity to perform
some great action! We become tired of the
routine cf home life, and imagine we would
be far hi ppier in other scenes. We think of
lifoa era it battlefield and wish to be heroes.
We thin): of the good we might do if our lot
bad been cast in other scenes. We forget
that the world bestows no such titles as noble
as fathei , mother, sister or brother. In the
sacred jrecincts of home we have many
chances of heroism. The daily acts of self
denial for the good of a loved one, the gentle
word of soothing for another's trouble, the
care for sick, may all seem as nothing; yet
who can toll the good they may accomplish!
Our slightest word may have an influence
over anc ther for good or eviL We are daily
sowing tbe seed which will bring forth some
sort of hirvest. Well will it be for us if the
harvest -will be one we will be proud to gar
ner. If some one in that dear home can look
back in iif tor years, and as be tenderly utters
onr noma, say: "Hor words and example pre
pared m i for a life of usefulness, to her I owe
my pre-nt happiness," we may well say: "I
have net lived iu vain." National Presby
terian. Literature for Children.
There is so niuch of it pure, wholesome ana
entertaining that no boy or girl who knows
how to read need be without books suited to
his or her taste. The business of preparing
juvenile literature has grown to enormous
proportions; some of the best writers do not
disdain io cater to tbe little ones, and there
re pul lishurs whose fortunes have been
nade by the printing and sale of books for
the youiig folks.
There is a dark a; 1- to this subject, as every
eflectin? person knoA's. Sido by side with
the pure stream ot children's literature re
ferred 1 1 there flows a dark and foul current
poisoned by depraved men, and yet made en
ticing e tough to tempt the boys and girls to
drink of it. This impure current finds its
way of bn unsuswcted into the homes of the
people, debasing pure young minds, prepar
ing innocent feet for evil ways, its very pres
ence a d nger not less menacing than disease.
The lenn is obvious. lt the children be
supplied with plenty of pure literature by
the pure hase of books, or from the libraries,
and there will be much less danger of tbeir
touching anything else. And yet that other
species is to be guarded against as men try
to ward off the pestilence. Philadelphia

YALE BEATS THE QUAKERS.
Aav Eight-Oared Race Between College
Crewi Sporting Notes.
New London, Conn., June 22. The
eight-oared 4-mile straight-away race be
tween the Vale and University of Penn
sylvania crews was rowed last evening over
the Thames river course from Gale's Ferry to
Wintbnp's Point, and was won by Yale by
one aa4 one-half lengths. Official time
Yale, 13:50; Pennsylvania, 23:54. A stiff
breeze was blowing up the river against the
crews, f nd over the first three miles the
water as rough. The interest in the race
centered almost wholly in the exhibition
given b 7 Yale as a means of judging her
chances in the race next Friday against
Harvar i The comments on the result very
widely differed, and although tbe boats were
kept veiy close together frora start to finish
it was in many respects a queer race.
A Walkover for Tale.
TJp tc the 2-mile flog the race seemed to
belong to either crew, but at that time Yale
went ahead and easily kept the lead, the
Pennsy: vanians going all to pieces iu their
stroke. The Yale crew won with a lead of
one and one-half lengths, having been or
dered by "Bob" Cook to win with as small a
margin as possible, in order to givo Harvard
nopoinss. At no time did Yale do its best,
and though to unprofessionuls the race
looked like a hard struggle it was really a
walkov sr.

Cheery Words
Frora a gentleman of Texas to his own
people, and all others over the "country
Hear what he says:
I have been a practical druggist in
Tyler for a number of years, and in that
time nave had. occasion to examine, try,
and notice the effect of nearly all the
highly recommended preparations or pat
ent medicines on the market, and as I
have suffered nntold misery myself, the
past number of years, from a severe form
of inflammatory rheumatism, and could
find nothing to cure or relieve me, I had
almost drawn a conclusion that all pat
ent medicines were more or less frauds
untQ about one year ago, I was in
duced ty a friend now living in Tyler, to
try a preparation known as 3 B. or Bo
tanic Blood Balm, and after a long per
suasion on his part, I finally made up
my mind to make one more effort to rid
myself of the terrible affliction; and it
now affords me the greatest pleasure of
my life to state to the citizens of Smith
county that I am entirely cured, with no
traces of the disease left, and all effected
by tbe magic healing properties of B. B.
B., which I consider the grandest, purest
and most powerful blood remedy known
to man. I have been subject to ins
flammatory attacks since ten years of
age, and up to the present time have had
four. The last spell came on me in
November, 1885, over a year
ago, at which time I was
confined to my bed for eight weeks, pass
ing the nights in misery, with no sleep
except when produced by narcotics and
various opiates. The week previous to
using B. B. B. up to that time I had only
eaten six men la, and could scarlely sit up
without support; but after using three
bottles I was able to relish my meals and
to walk up town, and after six bottles
had been used, thank heaven, I was en
tirely cured, and not the slightest pain
felt since tbat time. When I returned to
business in February, my weight was 145
pounds, but gradually increased until my
regular weight was again attained, 210
pounds. The noticeable fact in what I
bave so cheerfully stated is, that this un
paralleled and remarkable discovery, B.
B. B. , cured me in midwinter, at the
very time my sufferings and misery were
the greatest. I take it on myself as a
practical druggist to heartily, cheerfully,
as well as conscientiously, recommend
this glorious blood remedy to all sufferers
of rheumatism or blood troubles, and not
only myself, but the firm ot McKay &
Adams, who handle it, will cheerfully in
dorse its superior merits.
