World's Fair Animosities. "
The audience that greeted Mr. Depew at
the Auditorium last night, where he spoke
on the World's fair at the request of the
tress club, whose guest he is, was a mag
nificent one. The Press club, as well as
Mr. Depew, has reason to be proud of the
success of the evening. In size, the audi
ence was certainly the largest that ever
listened to any set public speech in Chi
cago, ana in composition was first-class.
Synopsis of the Speech.
Mayor Creirier introduced the orator.
a-ho devoted his address to a nlea for unity
in the matter of the fair. Me said that
New 1 oi k hurbored no hard feelings, and

all pull together and make the enterprise
a brilliant success. It must be national,
he said, or nothing. Chicago was equal to
the work of managing the fair and rais
tho money, ami t he balance of the country
would see to it that the exhibition was a
credit to a great nation.
