State of the Joke Market.
The strawlwrry lox joke is coming on
the marke t in small lots. First rate
strawberry jokes, like the lnittomsof the
srrawlH'rry boxes, come high. We quote
gilt edged, $1.50 to fair to prime, 50
cents to $ 1.25.
Ice cream jokes are more expensive
than they were last year; 75 cents each
for fair: shelf worn ice cream jokes, and
those saved over from last season, are
nusalaldV. Ice cream jokes with tyro
toxicon attachments command a slight
advance on quoted figures.
There is no demand for mother-in-law
jokes, and their murmfacture hits ceased
at the regular joke factories. Amatenrs
just starting in business produce a few,
but there is no market for them.
Jokes alout irate fathers setrintr the
bulldog on unwelcome callers upon their
daughters are occasionally produced, but
the demand for them is quite small.
SstHla water jokes of the drug store
wink brand are reappearing in the mar
ket. There are no fresh ones, however,
the specimens being those left over from
last season. Strictly fresh soda water
qmps would meet with a ready sale, but
the supply of this grade is short.
Mule and William goat witticisms are
dear at five cents per 11.
Jokes on liH.turers and tragedians, and
the reception they meet with at the
hands of discriminative audiences, are
eggspensive, if fresh laid, say f 1.50 to $2
per pair. -
Church fair oyster jokes R out of sea
son. Plumln r and coal dealer humor is out
of the market, and the ice man fun has
taken its place. The high price of ice
threatens to run values of this class of
humor np to an exorbitant point. There
is not much on the market as yet, hold
ers seemingly waiting for higher prices.
Humor about the apothecary who mis
takes morphine for quinine is a drug on
Jokes atxmt millinery bills are always
seasonable, though there is generally
boom from just lief ore Easter until the
summer is fairly here. Like the fair
consumers of the milinery, this brand of
linuinr is very dear.
Sealskin jokes are now put away in
camphor for the summer.
Servant girl jokes, like servant girls.
come high, but we must have them. We
quote A No. 1 at S5 per dozen.
Fun about spring poetry is somewhat
frayed at the edges. The subject is too
serious for proper humorous treatment.
Good efforts command from $1 to $1.37 j
each, according to quality.
Jokes alniut Philadelphia are slow.
Spring chicken jokes are tough.
The new extradition treaty with Enir
land has spoiled the market for cashier-
gone-to-Canada fun. We understand
that large dealersvere caught with quite
a supply on hand, and which were thus
Baby McKee jokes go off very slowly
now at 3 cents ier. 100.
The latest style of jokes includes the
Chicago V orld s fair, the phonograph,
and death by electrocution as a means of
Chestnuts are unsalable. We quote 5
cents per car load as a nominal figure.
