A W0MA NY DISCOVERY.
"Another wonderful discovery has
been made, and that, too by a lady in
this country. Disease fastened Us
clutckes upon her and for seven years she
withsi ood its severest tests, but her vital
organu were undermined and death
seeme i imminent. For three months she
coughed incessantly and could not sleep.
She bought of us a bottle of Dr. King's
New Discovery for consumption and was
so mu;h relieved on taking the first dose
that (he slept all night, and with one
battle has been miraculously cured. Her
name is Mrs. Luther Lutz." Thus write

The Prosperity of 1SSO-60.
A serial of protectionist arguments on
the prosperity under the tariff of 1846
would make funny reading. First, "it
never happened there was nothing but
panic and hard times." Next the state
ment was, "the so called prosperity was
due to the Irish famine and foreign
wars." But they were aeon shown that
we sold no grain to the Iran, bnt gave it
to them; and the wars of 1846-60 were
less than those since I860. Then the
gold of California was given as the rea
son. But there has been much more
gold produced since 18G0. "Oh, that
don't count." and so on, for absurdity
and contradiction. War and export -brought
prosperity under low tariff, they
say, but greater wars and threefolil
greater exports if farm products don't
count in 1S70-W). The entire exports of
farm products during the whole Criinoiiii
war were less than the exports of 183 1
by over 100.000,000. But a little thin;;
like that don't count with a McKinley
ite. Such facta tinlwirrass him.

Is I) isc ass a Punishment for Sin T
The following advertisement, published
by a prominent western patent medicine
house would indicate that they regard
disease as a punishment for Fin:
"Do you wish to know the quickest
way to cure a severe cold? We will tell
you. To cure a cold quickly, it must be
treated before the col 1 has become set
tkd in the system. This can alwavs be
done if you choose to, as nature in her
kindness to man gives timely warning
and pUitly tel's you in nature's way,
that as a puoishmtnt for some indiscre
tion, vou are to be afflxted with a cold
unless you choose to ward it off by
prompt action. The first ejmptomsof a
cold, in most casts, is a dry. loud cough
and sneezing. The cough is soon foI
lowed by a profuse watery expectoration
and the sneezing by a profuse watery dis
charge from the nose. In severe caes
there is a thin white coating on the
tongue. What to do? It is only reccs
sary to take Chamberlain's Couch Kern
edv in double doses every hour. That
will greatly hssen the severity of the cold
and in most cases will effectual!? counter
act it, and cure what would have been a
s vere ccld within one or two days time.
Try it and be convinced." 50 cent t ot
