Amos Hall and family, who reside two
miles south of the city, attended the
band concert last evening. Upon their
ret am home thev found a man with coat,
hat and shoes off lying; on the porch, ap '
parently asleep. -They aroused' him. and
he jumped up and began talking in an
incoherent manner. Claude Hall imme.

who went out and brouaht the supposed
crazy man to town. He proved to be
Thomas Leary, who has been stopping
at the Stoddart boarding house on West
Main street for the last few days. Toe
story is that Leary became enamored
with a young lady who is stopping at Mr.
Hall's named Nannie Hylsapple. Their
acquaintance dated back some time, be
ginning in Rock Island. Miss Holsap
ple. it seems, was indifferent to Leiry,
and he said that if she did not marry
him he would shoot himself. His a p.
pearance on the porch at the Hall resi
dence last night created quite a sensation
among the family. Sheriff Hixson
brought him to town, and finding that he
was all right let him out at his boarding
house. His revolver is now in Mr.
Hall's possession. Marshalltown (Iowaj
