Tbe tot weatbrr tod&y wasn't a marker
to the red hot meeting that was held in
the office of the C-racd Circie of White
Men in this city, a ij8 the Rockford Re
publican:
The question ff that society being
merged into tbe Frauklin Life associa
tion, of Sprinanel.t. wag ratified today.
It has been discussed pro and con for
months, and today it came to a focus.
Probably no society has ever held as
f xcitinR a meeting as the onts of today.
Mr. Glotfelty, of Lanark, acted as chair
man and no speaker in a legislative body
was evermore wotried than be.
"I tell you I know how to sympathize
with Tom Reed nt w." said he. as be znve
a handKercbief a Datn on his brow. The
wbole.trouble binned on whether or not
tbe White Men should cease to be White
Men that is so fat as the society was con
cerned. There were de-legation's present
who favored keepijg the organization in
tact and distinct, while others iun as
warmly advocated tbe necessity of the
order becoming a part of the Franklin.
Tee officers and the directors of the White
Men favored the idea of joining tbe
Franklin, whxh wus done, but not until
the atmosphere ws siturated with in
vectives and innuendoes and charues of
scheming on the prt of lots of people.
At times the chairman threatened to ad
journ the mt.-eling, and at other times the
talking grew so loi.d and violent thst the
levator boy in the Steward block yelled
police."
A Uock Island roan declared 'hat the
( filers were kV.tn:,; the best or the order
and others declared that the Rock lsl
ander was sore bect-use be couldn't be one
of the officers. An 1 thus the mfrry war
wert on, but the vcte by which the grand
circle joins the Frinklin was declared
carried, and now thj kickers will test tbe
matter in the courts. Mr. Stover, son of
the order's founder, stated to a Republi
can representative that tbe rflioes would
not be moved from this city.
